Bush's SOTU speech will not be his words....
He will only be parroting what a speechwriter has written? Does anyone know the name of the speechwriter? If Bush tells some more lies and shovels out a lot of BS, should we hold Bush responsible or the speechwriter?

Of course, we have to assume that Bush agrees with what he is reading from the teleprompter. (God forbid that someone shut off the teleprompter like they did with Clinton once...Can you just see the look on the Chimp's face if that were to happen?:) ) Of course, Clinton was able to carry on with his speech as if nothing had happened. Deer in the headlight would have new meaning.

We are such a blissful nation, because ignorance is bliss. We are stuck with the most exaggerated pretender of a president in my lifetime, with no curiosity, scoffing at intellect, reading the words of some anonymous person that few know little about. Yet, they will arise out of their comfort and applaud him as if his office is due the respect no matter if he pulls down his pants and craps all over the podium on live C-SPAN. God help us because we obviously are not able or intelligent enough to help ourselves.

1. Anybody know who the last president with no speechwriter was?
I'd love to know that one...It must have been a long time ago.

2. I would think it had to be certainly before tv and possibly even radio
In fact, I would bet it was the 19th century. I think most of them had someone helping them anyway.

19. I thought this was sarcasm - that the original reply was about
Clinton's propensity to adjust and rewrite clear up to the last minute.

5. It's the degree of dependence, that is the issue..
For example, sometimes Clinton would edit his speechwriters' entire speech. How much editing do you think Bush will do? Just curious.. or do you think he has spent most of last few days just getting down the syntax and the phrasing, with no idea of really what is coming out of smirking mouth?

27. Tyrone, lots of our real presidents have written their own speeches
can you IMAGINE our current dipshit "president" writing a speech? The moron cannot even pronounce the word NUCLEAR correctly. He is a BAD JOKE.

6. I do not understand this post.
Every President in my lifetime employed a STAFF of speechwriters. There won't be a single reporter anywhere who will note the SOTU address was patched-together by pollsters and professional writers because they ALL are. I'm not here to defend Bush but, on ocassion, do defend the reality of Washnigton. Please don't make your youself or others at DU appear to be naive by reacting with shock that Bush uses speechwriters.

10. This one is different. There seems to be no inter action.
He cannot imput shit. Evidence is the way he READS the speeches. Like a teacher to 2nd graders.

He is hopeless. After 3 years President, and 6 years Gov, you would think he could at least get by.

But no, he is a Dufus selected by Dufuses(I don't know the plural).

9. I heard some talking head (former writer) say this would be an easy one
to write. Afterall look how successful Bush is at this moment in time. We caught Saddam and the Economy is roaring over 10,000.

I had to laugh out loud. Are these guys really off in fantasy land, or just damn good liars?

12. Yeah, one wonders....
....what "16 little words" he's gonna read aloud this time?

Where's the "new and improved threat" gonna be coming from? Africa? Or South America?

What's cooking in the White House? They know they are on the ropes and if they can't come up with a new recipe they really have nothing new to share.

One would imagine a colossal blunder much like the "16 words" is gonna be served up tonite. And if the teleprompter blinks, well, all the better.

14. I bet he plays it safe and trys to do that "vision thingy" Poppy couldn't.
Well, neither can he, but he'll harp on the big issues like manned spaceflight to the Heavens (argh!) and cutting the deficit in half in 2 years (no details on that Big Lie) and how we're winning the war on terra cause we haven't been attacked again (no mention death and destruction in Iraq).

He'll probably say something too like how "angry" the Democrats are and he, as a God-fearing, born-again, worshiper of the Lord Almighty Jesus Christ cannot understand their anger at him.

I will not watch, it would just give me heartburn.

Good detective work, leftchick.

Now we know that Bush's brain has turned to the cavernous consistency of an oil-sotted sponge.

That explains so much.

24. Count how many times he pauses before speaking
He can't even read or memorize someone else's speech that is written for him. He is like a kid at a Christmas play with a mom standing on the side of the stage reading lines to her son while he performs.
Bush is an embarrassment to our country.
