Media Research Center's list of 2003's worst "Liberal" quotes
Make sure you check out the list of esteemed judges.

Lots here, have fun!

http://www.mrc.org/notablequotables/bestof/2003/bestquote.asp

“I don’t think anybody who looks carefully at us thinks that we are a left-wing or a right-wing organization.”
– Peter Jennings

“When the word gets out that Dean isn’t liberal – and in fact is quite conservative – on fiscal issues, he’ll pick up more McCain support....On fiscal issues, he’s far to the right of Kennedy.”
– Senior Editor Jonathan Alter

This one contains a little of both but they only saw the problem on one side, I guess.

Judy Woodruff: “The rap on Dean is that the Burlington Birkenstock crowd, people who put Dean signs in bars called the Red Square, can’t take their man to the White House, that he’s just too far left.”
Vermont political reporter Peter Freyne: “His entire time in Vermont politics, going back to his days in the legislature, as Lieutenant Governor and as Governor in the ‘90s, there was never a sentence in any newspaper in the state of Vermont that contained the word ‘liberal’ and ‘Howard Dean.’”
– CNN’s Inside Politics, July 11. <28>

“By the way, ‘No blood for oil,’ from many people who are opposed to the war is, is not complicated at all. They believe the United States wishes to occupy Iraq in the long term to have the oil. Just so we understand why they wear those little buttons, ‘No blood for oil.’”
– Jennings on World News Tonight, March 20. <33>

I LOVED these two:

“Being a man, I’ve got to say that we’ve got this guy in the White House who thinks he is a man, you know, who projects himself as a man because he has a certain masculinity, and he’s a good old boy, and he used to drink, and he knows how to shoot a gun and how to drive a pickup truck, et cetera, like that. That’s not the definition of a man, God dammit!”
– Actor Ed Harris speaking at a January 21 NARAL Pro-Choice America banquet televised on C-SPAN. <43>

Craig Kilborn: “Use the words ‘compassionate’ and ‘conservative’ in the same sentence while being neither ironic nor scornful.”
Actor/activist Tim Robbins: “That’s a tough one. Neither ironic nor scornful?”
Kilborn: “Yeah.”
Robbins: “Alright. F*** compassionate conservatives!”
– Exchange in “5 Questions” segment on CBS’s Late Late Show, October 30. CBS bleeped the F-word.

1. The "Media Research Center" is a complete joke.
It's sole purpose is to advance the completely baseless idea that the media is "liberal". The man behind it is a 100% wacko rightwinger.

3. Aaaah, that must be why. .. . .
. . . . I didn't get any of these.

were they supposed to be funny? absurd? faux-liberal?

Like I said, I didn't get any of them.

Tansy Gold, who should probably buy a new sense of humor but her credit cards are all maxxed out.

4. Yes, like the Nazis listing "Worst Quotes from the Jew Media"
Laughable and terrifiying (given that said monsters had real power in the nation they sezied) at the same time.

6. That's the best they could do?
I'm amazed that the myth of the "liberal media" has persisted so long. The "evidence" supporting is just so weak.

7. it will take a while
The Reich Wing has been screaming "liberal media" over and over and over for the better part of 30 years now. It sinks in with the average person if it gets repeated so often for so long a time.

9. How about quotes for Conservative Bias in the media?
How about we come up with our own quotes, rather than some ambiguous faux liberal quotes from the MRC?

10. That Woodruff quote sounds like conservative bias to me
Just last week both Aaron Brown (who I used to like) and Brian Williams almost simultaneously asked "Will it matter?" concerning the O'Neill book.
