Karen Hughes on CNN: "somewhat in jest"
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 04:05 PM by Bush_Eats_Beef
Bush adviser Karen Hughes was just on CNN. She was asked a point-blank question..."recent polls show that 1/2 of the American people are dissatisfied with the way the country is going. Do you trust these polls?"

Hughes: "We've made considerate progress and we can either continue that progress or we can turn back and allow that progress to fester."

Hughes then made a startling claim: that "two thirds of Al Quaeda's leadership had been captured." I may be missing something, but since one of the biggest problems in dealing with Al Quaeda is that we don't know who these people are or where the're operating (other than everywhere), how does one determine when you have captured "two thirds" of an effing underground?????

When asked about the White House "salivating" over the chance to run against Howard Dean and Bush's choice of the candidate he would most like to run against:

"I say somewhat in jest "The Democratic Candidate"...I think that when the Democrats choose their candidate, and the American people look at that candidate, they will re-nominate President Bush."

It was refreshing to see a woman who so clearly has her finger on the pulse of the American people.

Yes, that was sarcasm, for anyone who missed it. This was the first time I've seen Hughes, even though I've read extensively about her "greatest hits." She seemed to me like a less charming, female version of Karl Rove.

Sarcasm again.

:-)

Edited to add the Al Quaeda reference.

1. Well now....
I'm sure the American people will renominate him. Then they'll elect the Dem, just as they did last time.

3. sure about the "female" part? Rove is more feminine than her.
The American people want someone who will be stable and who is a part of the established order. That is why people winnowed the field to Bush and Gore. They don't want insurgent candidates.

A LOT of people will vote in every state for a Kerry/Clark or Kerry/Edwards or Edwards/Clark ticket.

It is really going to get interesting come September. We will see a bunch of smart Americans be absolutely nauseated by the Bush junta attempting to coopt 9-11 as their party's platform and issue. They will see what is happening and rebel against the cheap political games. They will get REAL PATRIOTS who've served their country honorably in place of a drunkard failed business man Yaley who enjoys killing people more than he enjoys helping people.

4. Er, she said "re-nominated" rather than "re-elected"???
Interesting Freudian slip.

5. Yes, I was taking notes...
...when they announced she was going to be on I grabbed a pen and paper. She said "they will re-nominate President Bush."

She was spinning furiously on how the economy is recovering and stimulating job creation, and I would have loved to provide quotes on that too, but I was fighting back the waves of nausea produced by the quotes I DID capture.

She did not provide a direct answer to any of the VERY direct questions she was asked. It's very similar to the way that citizens in North Korea who are allowed to interact with the media respond to every question about Kim Jong-il with a "great accomplishment" by "Peerless Leader, Beloved Leader, Great Leader, Dear Leader," etc.

Blind, unflinching, uncompromising, pre-programmed "info bites" for the unwashed masses. More to follow at 8:00 eastern time tonight, I'm sure.

to note who's in the planned "audience"..the response to the monkey should be interesting.
Plus, she's letting everyone know she's back on the scene and that she wrote the SOTU.
