What if Homeland Security shuts down Dem Convention due to security |
|
risks? If they can scramble airport security and shut things down by diversions...it could throw the convention into chaos. Contrast that with a highly stage-managed super secure police state memorial to 9-11 victims/republican nomination maybe have the Governator there to say "Hasta La Vista, democracy!"
When I saw a news report about a Connecticut airport shutting down due to security breach..I just happened to think of that scenario. Why wouldn't they try it? Just keep the Dems intimidated and off balance. Dept. of Homeland Security has been used politically before now in Texas.
They could shut down voting sites. They could skim black voters from lists like in Florida. They could manufacture scandals around the leading Dem. candidate about fund raising, etc. It's going to be ugly.

6. I like how you phrased it |
|
It seems more likely. "We will still have elections. This is still a democracy. We just need to dealy them until things are more secure."

an anonymous callers now can shut down just about anything they want and if they are really good keep it shut down for a long period of time. That is the result of living in fear vs developing human and technological intelligence to test threats.

3. so....you're saying a bunch of disaffected people could call in threats |
|
to the GOP convention? No....I think that's what the junta would have wet dreams about. Then it validates everything they predict about bogeymen and the necessity of Patriot Act 2.
Of course, they could release some Taliban from Camp X-ray into downtown Manhattan and have an interactive terrorist manhunt coinciding with GOP convention with a happy ending of bagging the terrorist and removing the world of evil.

5. you certainly don't know that for a fact. |

just look at what the Repukes in Congress are doing to deprive their Dem counterparts of any kind of voice on legislation. These people are rolling the dice to take it all in this go-round. Ever since they got away with stealing an election...they have felt ever more emboldened to shake off all authority from others and do whatever benefits them as if they expect NO ACCOUNTABILITY because people like you say..."oh...it'll never happen".

Holding crucial votes on Friday at 2AM after the news cycle ends so no one reports the story is one thing. The GOP in Congress knows how to manipulate the media very effectively with regards to secrecy. However, a Presidential order calling off the Democratic National Convention would certainly not go unnoticed, and Bush would lose some serious independent numbers as a result.
Is the GOP devious? Yes. Are they stupid? Not a chance.
