Condi Rice

Condi is clearly unhappy. Her lips are pursed and she is VERY unenthusiastic.

I suspect that her material DIDN'T make it into the SOTU.

Anyone else have a perspective.

Oh BTW, I loved Bush's reference to "inviting" engineers and scientists to teach part time in high schools. If Bush had a freakin clue, he would realize they would have to take a substantial pay cut in order to teach part time.

That is, unless your among the unfortunates who have had their jobs outsourced overseas. In my case "part time" sub teaching is an unfortunate reality. Basically, they are forcing high-paid professionals into lesser paying teaching jobs.

Kudos for Bush. Way to inspire the engineers of tomorrow by flooding schools with fired engineers whose education was effectively wasted through outsourcing. This should inspire kids to study, not.

1. I think you misunderstood.
You didn't think they were going to Pay you for teaching, did you? I think that evil SOB is looking for volunteers.

2. I've seen a lot of people come to teaching from other careers.
Most of them leave because they do not have the training or desire to teach. My father, a former electrical engineer, would have had his head explode if left in a classroom full of 14 year olds.

11. You're probably right
I am now an engineer but I am considering going into teaching instead of retirement. Not yet. But the personality type that works in engineering I don't think would work dealing with 14 year olds. I'm sure my head would explode.

I think I might survive at a junior college.

I don't think its uncommon for techinical people to go into teaching later in life. But, I don't think it would work well in high school environment.

I wonder about Condi also.
I wonder what form of aggression she was promoting through the SOTU? Syria invasion? Iran?

9. Condi looks sick and misserable. Some think she services
Bush, which I don't believe because I think most republicans are either asexual or ultra kinky.

6. I'm teaching in a high school and have a masters in engineering...
I get $27K...my friends who work in industry make $60K...

It is a choice I made because I care about the kids...but with that much of a difference, there is no way that those people are going to teach without some sort of incentive...

8. Incentive

Unemployment is a strong incentive. I have family who are/were career teachers. What is amazing is that they never hit on the issues that will help teachers.

1) Higher pay for our "hero" civil servants. Cops, Firefighters and Teachers.

2) Lower class sizes. Provide LOTS of federal funding for school systems that achieve SMALL class sizes. In fact, I think this should be the Democrats answer to "no child left behind". Target no more than 20 students per teacher.

10. I am an engineer.
Why bother? The manufacturing and industry jobs are almost all outsourced overseas.

America doesn't do science anymore.

We might as well teach the kids to work a cash register or stock Walmart shelves.

12. Why does he want engineers and scientists to teach in schools,
especially since he goes out of his way to ignore or abuse what any self-respecting engineer or scientist says?
