just back from SOTU Protest in DC....was there any TV coverage?
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 10:25 PM by amen1234

there were plenty of cameras there...we stood with the United States Capital in the background and READ every single name (502) of OUR SOLDIERS, who died in Iraq...some people stood at the microphones for the Hundreds of DEAD Innocent Iraqis...100 at a time....each person held a card with the DEAD soldier's name and age...came to the microphones and read the name and the age....some said they were reading the name of their brother, uncle, son, daughter, friend...others were reading names of people they never met....it took a long long long long time, in the freezing cold to read all the names of OUR dead and the Iraqi dead (as a group...such as "I stand for 100 innocent Iraqis who were killed by the United States of America because bush* lied).....

it was a moving ceremony....there were police surrounding us on all sides....a small group of drummers and musicians beating after each person took the microphone....more than 502 people stood for hours out in a freezing cold night...reading the names of those KILLED for bush* lie....

4. everyone felt that it was the very least we could do...to HONOR
the dead...with bush* lying inside the warm Capital building...

did you see any TV coverage or photo coverage? we were surrounded by TV cameras and photographers.....I loaned my extra gloves to a cameraman from the Catholic Register, who had no gloves....and couldn't find the guy in the crowd later...but I'm sure to get them back...Catholics are like that...

3. I didnt see anything
and I stood on my street in this small town and called out all the name also..
NO press on it. Nothing. Ive been checking.
Once again, the people, the soldiers, the poor and disenfranchised are ignored.

8. Thanks for your effort.
This afternoon I heard a commentator on CNN or MSNBC say that there were going to be two protests during the SOTU speech. Generic description of protests; no specifics.

10. For what it's worth, I put up a post during the SOTU
to remember you guys and gals standing out there in the freezing cold weather. Everytime I would get pissed at *, I would remember you!

friends or Dad read a name????

I held a sign the whole time, held it up high...it said:

"Remembering Lives Lost to a Lie"

that was the theme....

I was hoping that sign made it into a photo or video...it seemed like such an appropriate theme, and a good message, with the U.S. Capital in the background (I stayed out of sight, behind the sign mostly)....

13. Yeah, Kevin C. Ott 27 US Army
I saw that sign, I think that and the peace flag were my favorites. We all read names, and my friends dad brought some kind of indian drum. I had a good time, met a few cool people, I think the only thing that kept me from dieing out there was the free hot tea tho, hehe.

the drummers added a lot to the event....even though their instruments were affected by the cold...they kept up a good rhythm as each name was read....please thank them for me....everyone did so well, in spite of the cold...WE STOOD UP together...representing America...

thanks for reading the names....not to be personal or anything...but how old are you?....are you draftable???

here's some photos on another thread

15. I'm 17, not draftable as of today
I did see the protest during school on CBS or ABC or some such channel. We keep the news on during Government, and I saw the protest, and rubbed the fact that I was there in my Freeper Gov. Teachers face, sparked a nice discussion, asked if I remembered the name of the soldier I represented, I did.

First off I want to thank you for being there to voice Americas concerns. I only wish they would have covered you guys instead of Shrub I'll bet you all were a lot more interesting not to mention smarter than the chimp. Again thank you for the effort and keep up the good fight I hope soon Shrub will be elected out of office and we can bring our troops home where they belong!

18. Quick blurb on the evening news

and I was surprised but grateful that you weren't entirely ignored.

The vision of you protestors bravely honoring the dead in frigid weather, surrounded by police, brings tears to my eyes. It is heartening to know that people of heart and soul stand proudly against the atrocities of this Administration. Thank you, one and all. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
