Does anyone else feel like something big is about to happen?
I have absolutely no inside information, but I am getting a feeling in my bones that keeps getting stronger that something big, potentially terrible, is about to happen. For the first time, I am beginning to feel like this administration has completely lost control of everything. Not that I am optimistic about a Democratic victory - I'm not, not yet anyway. But I used to think that Bushco were completely in control of their own evil master plan. Now, after lie upon lie has been spun, I'm not even sure THEY know what's going on. Somehow, that makes me even MORE frightened.

The only thing that I feel confident in is that they have some scary news, probably about the economy, that they are keeping hidden but know they can't forever.

Anyone else have the feeling that the shit's about to hit the fan in a big way?

54. What you are feeling is the subconscious knowledge that things are
so interdependent in today's world, that it won't take much to crash things like a house of cards. Examples: Power grids go out for more than a week. Computer bug shuts down the banks and you can't get your money. We are so technologically dependent and interconnected, that one hit on one of the "nodes" and the whole system might crash. Something happening halfway around the world could have enormous consequences for us here. The more technologically advanced we become, the more vulnerable we are. America itself, not just the stock market, etc, is one big balloon waiting to be popped.

This President just spent an hour lying about all facets of his administration, and it is going unchallenged.

I don't think they (Republicans) are concerned at all about the lies.
There is no reason to, no one challenges them.

11. My point is that Enron lied, and they didn't care either.
Neither did their investors or customers. But there are some lies that are so big that nothing can hide them anymore. And when that lie breaks, all hell can break loose.

That's the feeling that I'm having. There is some lie that they knew they can't hide very much longer. They're panicing and losing control.

8. I felt It last night
I truly believe that there is something in the air. I can't put my finger on it exactly, but a change is a-comin'. I don't think it's a bad thing, I feel it'll be positive. What occurred in Iowa yesterday was incredible. It really energized me in a positive way. I hate to sound Pollyanna-ish, but I felt a renewed sense of faith in democracy. I hope I'm right.

22. Yesterday I wrote something to post to DU about a 'feeling' I had...
it scared me so much that I backed out and didn't send it. Mine related to a concocted bio type MIHOP. Later, I read about the oil countries lobbying each other to switch to gold for oil - abandoning the dollar. That nearly replaced my original bad feelings.

Ever since 9-11 I turn on the TV with dread. When the clown court jesters on cable are making stupid, embarassing jokes I know that there are only about 100 bad things that they aren't going to tell us so all's well in the right wing world. I go to TV for the latest flavor of propaganda, then I go to the net for news.

48. MIHOP Means
Made It Happen On Purpose.

It is one of the alternative theories about 9/11, and the most damning to Bush. Essentially it says that the Bush Cabal crashed those planes into things itself to give it an excuse for empire building.

The other alternatives;

LIHOP - Let It Happen On Purpose - They knew something was coming, even if not the details, but allowed it to happen to give an excuse for empire building.

LIH - They should have and could have seen it coming, and were so fscking incompetent that the terrorists had their way with us. Then, they used it as an excuse for empire building.

None terribly flattering to Bush, when you think about it.

81. Dubious rescuer?
Most people have heard of those weird cases where a mentally unbalanced person gets into a "rescuing" profession (police officer,
firefighter, nurse, physician or the like) and then proceeds to
manufacture incidents where they can suddenly appear to be the
hero or savior. Sort of like Munchausen by Proxy disease. This unfortunate behavior is how some very sick people garner attention
for themselves, make themselves 'indispensible,' as it were.

As the economy continues to circle the drain and things get worse
for civil rights, and as the election grows ever closer, the ROTUS
will be under increasing pressure to "establish his value" to the
'Merican people.

I really believe that the motley crew occupying 1600 Pennsylvania
Avenue knows more about a lot of stuff than they are telling.

Put me down for the "let it happen" side.

38. This is where my attention would be focused.
I don't go into the Economics forum, so I can't speak for what's been posted there, but just my gut feeling tells me that if there is anything the bushies might be sweating about, that's it.

I think they've spun the "recovery" about as much as it can be spun. There are no new jobs being created, not to replace the ones that have been lost or to make jobs for the general increase in the workforce. Consumer confidence and all that other poll nonsense can be spun and respun, but it doesn't make jobs, doesn't put food on people's tables (or families, for that matter).

The economy is a real thing. Jobs, paychecks, savings, the cost of housing and food and everything else. Spin won't pay the electric bill. Rhetoric won't make a lay-off go away.

We know the stock market is a bubble, and the housing market is approaching bubble proportions, too. Foreclosures and bankruptcies are up, lay-offs are up, credit debt is up, the national debt is beyond up --- all Ponzi schemes come to an end, and I think we're staring into the face of the end of the mother of all Ponzi schemes.

What I fear -- and this is a fear that's been lurking at the back of my consciousness for about, oh, about three years -- is that when the crash comes, it will be so massive and so sudden that it will be far worse than 1929.

What I hope, however, is that if the economy has reached the precipice, it hasn't quite gone over the edge yet and there's still time to pull it back.

But I ain't holdin' my breath.

Tansy Gold, who is stocking up on canned goods and pasta.

25. My concerns
obviously, we are kept on tenterhooks waiting for the next terrorist attack whenever it's useful for one reason or another.

..but my concerns right now are that the U.S. economy is about to have a big..comeuppance from other nations...the dollar is a concern, and the talk of conversion of petrol money to other things...the euro, some gold..

I am concerned that the govt is hiding inflation, and wonder if stagflation is looming.

I am concerned that so many are un or underemployed.

I am concerned that a serious US economic crisis will have repercussions around the world, and will weaken the US in ways that have nothing to do with bluster.

and beyond that...

the mess of a way that Bush began and continues to deal with Iraq.

Chavez in Venezuela and his increasing accusations of US attempt to both overthrow his govt and assassinate him.

the stomach-churning pandering to the Ameirican talibornagains, and the further encroachment on civil liberties every time Bush opens his lying mouth.

...but other than that, no problem.

These are just dreams and nothing more. You can always dream something bad and then try and make a connection to what happens in reality. I'd rather not give details because I don't want anyone to read it and think that there is a connection to them. We're all better off dreaming about love, babies and life.

40. I get that feeling sometimes too
My husbands a pilot and when he is gone I sleep, with the news on because I feel like I won't wake up to a surprise like last time when the airbus crashed in queens right after 9-11. It scares me to think of what the * would do if his numbers crashed and the fact that the media is blantantly lying and getting away with it, what is this administration going to do when more and more don't believe faux.

44. I have felt this way for a while
Especially this year. I am trying to be optimistic. I just got a job recently but I am not so sure that things will get better this year. They keep telling us that the economy is getting better but how long are they going to tell us that line this year? Especially when millions of people are still out of work and all I am seeing are the rich getting richer and the poor...well you know! How much of an impact is that going to have in Bush's bid for another term?

My biggest fear is that if Bush's approval ratings hit around 40% per cent, something catastrophic is going to happen, our rights and freedoms will be thrown down the toilet, and Bush's approval ratings hit 99%. Officially speaking.

45. OMG!!!
Too weird. I was just talking to my sister yesterday, and I was telling her that I have this weird feeling...like something big is going to happen. Soon. I've been on edge lately, trying to pinpoint my nervous energy...and it's based on nothing but a *feeling* that things are going to change, big time in the near future...good or bad I don't know. But it's driving me crazy!

I thought I was crazy and feel a teensy bit better that I'm not the only one!

47. Yes, I do
It feels like the wheels are falling off this administration. Who knows what they will do to keep it together. I refuse to be afraid, though. That is what they want.

49. The FEAR MONGERING IS WORKING on you. See?
Rove's methods of instilling fear are VERY effective.

Considering there have been precisely TWO attacks by foreigners on the USA in TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY YEARS, you stand a far better chance of being eaten by a shark, than of being attacked by al queda or the talican or saddam hussein or OBL's ghost.

57. You misunderstand. I'm not worried about a terrorist attack.
I'm worried about a complete collapse of the economy. I don't think that that's what Rove wants.

53. Not right now
but I'm predicting that I will catch this "nervous energy" around summer time. I hate to be the pessimist, but I think that's the time -- just before election -- when * will pull Osama out of their hat, OR bring the troops home (parade and flags everywhere). Of course, this would be good for our country -- in the short term. Long term = bush re-election :scared:

60. Yes.
But it isn't a premonition feeling; it is the knowledge that Bush is finally catching on to the fact that he isn't well liked. All the revelations that have come out-people are finally starting to see through the lies.

Every time bad news comes out he counters it. He needs something big this time; and I really don't think it will work. Short of a disaster, which, of course, he would have absolutely no control over. Right?

62. well, if by "something" you mean an unknown...
and if by "about to" you mean in a time window of the next few months and by "big" you mean affecting a large segment of this country...then I would say it is a fair bet that "something big is about to happen".

64. Yes...
something kind of like "peak insanity" has been reached in this country. It just seems like a law of nature that something has to give soon. Whether it's financial, political, man-made or natural disaster, I don't know, but I kind of feel like the barometer is about to explode.

I hope it is some big GOP, blow-job involving scandal, but that would be just too perfect!

69. Wow...
"Peak Insanity" is exactly it. I can't shake the (admittedly horrible) feeling that somebody is going to be assassinated. We're at the level of crazy right now that could lead to something along the lines of what happened in '68 with MLK/RFK.

66. So, I'm not the only one?
Yes, I'm not sure what, it feels like we're in freefall right now. I know not everybody follow professional sports, but I'm thinking that after the distraction of the super bowl is over, and we enter the deadzone, people usually distracted by sports will have time to sink their teeth into something else.
The moron* is falling, slowly now, but steady, and without something for the sheeple to be interested in, they'll look closer at the chimp* and his mishandling of all things foreign and domestic.
The situation in the ME, is deteriorating a large attack with many killed is possible. The Kurds claiming the Northern part of the country as theirs is a possibility. The house of cards that is the economy collapsing is a possibility.
Yes the small hairs on the back of my neck are standing up, I feel better knowing that others are awake as well.

77. In some ways "history" would call us all "MAD" on this site....whether the
definition is "crazy mad" in mental problems; Mad because of Anger/Frustration at our reduced circumstances; or....the Madness of Genius...where we sense what's out there is a threat, and we raise our fists to the Gods to See What We See!......

Yes...I think it's the Economy that you are seeing with such verboding.

The lies about GREAT AMERICA...whose underpinnings have been sold out by the Repugs....

But, I agree. I have a terrible sense that something bad is going to happen. And it's not a terrorist attack because we all are on edge about that, it's something worse....that will tear the roots from our society up and cause chaos and confusion for some time.

But! I think whatever it is....we here have been forewarned...and we will survive it. But, it won't be pretty and it will be awhile before we really understand that we are better off because "we knew."

Just my littl psychic input to your serious post.

:scared: Only in that I get chills thinking about all of this.
I do understand where you're coming from!

83. "mad"
The quote applies to those who have delusions of grandeur, or are guilty of hubris, those who not only think that they are above the natural order of things, but indeed believe that they themselves dictate and control the natural order of things.

There are many of us on this board who are "mad" in the sense of angry at what is taking place in this country. I think there is a lot of impotence tied up in that anger, becuase there is very little we can do to change things.

Personally, I think the country itself, if not the world, is largely mad in the crazy sense. Up is down, and right is wrong, black white, lie is truth, and so on...there is a profound lack of balance, there is a stumbling in the dark with blindfolds on, and hands untied. There is denial and fear and deception. There is deep sleep.
