This is astounding. Virtually all of the calls into CSpan say the speach was a dud. Even the Republican supporters are at best saying it was OK and then finding parts they disagreed with.
NPR's assessment immediately after the speach was not at all favorable either. This is a better night than I thought it would be.

1. Yes, but what about the speech? |

Sorry. Couldn't resist!
The SOTU speech may have been a dud, but the Dem response was totally craven and embarrassingly mild. I swear, these McAuliffe Dems seem to be working for Rove. Where's the fire? Where's the accountability?

...it will be ranked up there with Webster's Second Reply to Hayne.
Karl has to work the phones a bit, but all will be right by tomorrow's nightly newscast.

Those were my wife's words just minutes ago after listening to all the callin's on CSpan. The best was a 20 year old fellow. I'd love to have his call on tape.

Not at Bush's speach, but at the responses to it.
First, when the Dem side "pre-emptively" applauded the expiration of the Patriot act. What a beautiful response, and you could see how PO'ed Bush was at the Dems audacity. I said to myself "that's the closest thing to actual boo's I've every heard from congress at a SOTU."
And THEN it happened! Honest to God above Boo's to Bush's call to make the ill thought tax cuts permament. Boo's!
I thought I'd heard it all, and was applauding the Dems for growing spines, and thinking it couldn't have been any better. Then I came here on DU and found some who think it was the Republican side Booing?
Was it? Anyone know? Was it Dems? Repubs? A mixed assortment?

He's just making sure he'll continue to take care of his felon fraternity of friends, starting with Pledge Father Kenny Boy Lay.

...after care for ex-prisoners is to route funding through faith-based organizations such as The Salvation Army and Chuck Colson's organization, both of which do mentoring and that kind of thing.

It's the attached strings he's interested in, and which we need to be alert to. He'll provide funds, AS LONG AS the money goes to religious groups, or to abstinence as the only preventative to STDs and teen pregnancy, etc...

I was just being sarcasatic...in that this program will go to help retrain his felon friends after their prison terms. :) Sorry if that wasn't clear.
