My list of revealing moments in the SOTU
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 11:29 PM by Must_B_Free
1. did anyone hear when he picked up the little black girl he had selected as a prop that someone said "That's the shot of the night"? (how opportunistic)

2. The guest armed services members, two guys and a gal. They looked like they were seething at Bush. Not happy at all, ever, when they were shown.

3. Liked Teddy Kennedy's Headshakes in responses to the obvious lies and the jowel flapping maneuver he did.

4. When he talked about education they showed about a 12 year old gues. He looked off in the other direction.

5. Weapons of Mass Destruction program activity??? Not even actual programs? Gee, could we possibly back away from that any further?

6. The 2, uh 10 year old girl

7. Bush talked about how "No longer can anyone question the word of America" and they flash to Colin Powell who three times lied to the UN to lead them into the war.

1. How about the revelation that Iraq occupation is already internationalized
by the collation of the small and easily bullied.

Is it going to be the old cut and run or eternal Amerikan occupation?

2. Did you notice how often he seemed to be on the verge of laughter?
I swear, I saw it at least 3x; he really looked like he was holding it in--maybe even literally biting his tongue!

3. Oh, and when he announced intentions to drug tests at schools
to "show our children that we love them" (or some such crap), the little boy, confused, leans in to ask his Dad what the hell he was talking about (as his Freeper father applauds).

5. yeah that was the one
you expected to see the featured kid clapping and smiling but he was not on point.

None of the symbolic guests were - they were all disinterested or frowning, etc.

11. DRUG TESTS at SCHOOLS? What did I miss?!?!
I watched the first half but had to put my toddler to sleep. Don't tell me this insane drug war is going to extend to even more routine degradation of the human condition in the school system than what already exists?

6. not mentioned on CNN
all I hear was someone behind the prez say "That's the shot of the night" jumping on the idea of using this girl to portray Bush as supportive of diversity, when in reality its all duplicitous lip service.

8. "Free labor unions" (in Iraq)
That was classic. I also thought he seemed a bit surprised at the clapping after he mentioned provisions of the Patriot Act expiring.

10. I think we are getting to him
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 12:06 AM by legin
The first 15-20 minutes foreign policy bit was really a defence of what he has done, he is on the defensive on this issue. And it is not an issue he enjoys any more because as soon as he moved onto the domestic issues section you could feel him lighten up, get more confident, start to enjoy himself.

Of course there were some really horrible bits in that too.

12. Oh, and how could I have forgotten
"not about domination or empire." Uh-huh, and Dick and Don did not tell him to say that.

14. the almost in passing reference to the carrier landing
no mention of the landing itself - it is now just "meeting members of the armed services on a carrier deck" I guess Rove's focus groups have spoken and the plane landing is not seen as a political asset anymore.
