I just heard that snip, WRT sanctity of marriage.

do the names Scalia, Thomas, Rehnquist, Kennedy, OConnor ring a bell, you halfwit?

and now Kenneth Duberstein, the single person most responsible for Clarence Thomas, is on Nightline, sounding like a poor man's version of Goebbels, laying on the propaganda as thick as a blanket of hungry maggots on a six day old Afghan baby's corpse, putrescing in the.......but I digress

4. every thing Bush said tonight had a sick duplicity
I think that's why he's smirking, because he knows he's deceiving and he thinks he's clever.

15. Creepy, just creepy
The thought of these vulgar little weasels "defining" marriage makes me want to vomit. You lurking freepers should hang your heads in shame, because you know better than to be silent while the federal government sticks it nose into your most intimate business. And do you think they'll spend over a billion dollars on promoting marriage without changing divorce and community property laws?

I just heard that snip, WRT sanctity of marriage.

In fact, it could be said about any instance in which the courts interpret and apply a constitution in opposition to what a government wants to do. Oddly enough, of course, the purpose of constitutions and constitutional courts is precisely to prevent governments from doing some of the things that some governnments might want to do.

His statement is actually an attack on the whole concept of constitutional government ... separation of powers ... individual rights ... protection of vulnerable minorities against oppressive action by majorities ...

It could be said to rally public sentiment against just about anything and anyone that is constitutionally protected; it is an attack on the legitimacy of such protections and on the legitimacy of the people and institutions that enforce them, and it undermines the authority of those people and institutions in the public mind.

It's demagoguery -- an appeal to irrationality and prejudice and unexamined self-interest -- rather than an effort to present persuasive argument. It is anti-democratic. As is everything else that comes out of his mouth.

But damn, I was so busy being appalled by it that I missed that irony. Thanks for pointing it out. ;)

18. Ironic to hear George attack Judges
Yes - they are the ones that got him there and now he is calling into question the Constitutional seperation of power that he was annointed under...how much further can he go? Hopefully far enough that he even erodes his own base and given the boot.
