WP slams the shrub.....hits him hard....shows everyone what a
'little' man squats in the BIG WH....throw the bum out !!!! send bush* back to texas....basta de bush !!!!! this would be really funny if it wasn't so sad...I'm caught between laughing out loud and crying for MY COUNTRY.....

----------------------- this is the lead editorial in the WP

State of the Platform
Wednesday, January 21, 2004; Page A26

It was hard not to be struck by the small-bore nature of some of Mr. Bush's proposals, by the clear political cast of others and, most of all, by the failure to grapple with some of the serious issues facing the country.

In the face of record deficits, a costly new prescription drug program, and mounting costs in Iraq and Afghanistan, it was as breathtaking as it was unsurprising that Mr. Bush repeated his call to make the tax cuts permanent.

He devoted twice as much time to rallying professional athletes to "get rid of steroids now" as he did to Social Security reform.

1. The steroids thing...
Had me convinced he was about to snap, like Harry Morgan on that M*A*S*H episode he did before he was cast as Col. Potter. A total and utter non sequeter.

4. Damn, I love it!
<snip>
But he provided no accounting of his mistaken or exaggerated allegations about Iraq's weapons in his State of the Union address one year ago. Instead he tried to cover the gap between what he described and what has been found with a brief and tortured reference to "weapons-of-mass-destruction-related program activities."
<snip>

Weapons-of-mass-destruction-related program activities? :wtf:

5. Bill Schneider on CNN
reported that the immediate polling showed the worst reaction to the SOTU in at least 6 years.

I think only 45% of people who saw it felt better about the country afterward. (I may have the exact question wrong.)

The SOTU was a dud. He won't get a bounce from it at all this year.

Just what the hell does he have to crow about? Outsourcing--I swear, whatever candidate takes this one up wins the White House.

8. Steroids: what a strange thing to bring up
He devoted more time to steroids than the deficit and Osama Bin-Laden combined.

10. Did he mention Osama? I didn't hear that
and that was about the first thing Peter Jennings said when he came on after. He commented that that name was curiously absent. A bit later one of his guests said shrub 'looked comfortable in his own skin' < code for recovery folks. Jennings made a strong point that shrubs speaking skills are vastly improved.

18. Whose speaking skills wouldn't improve...
after doing nothing but vacationing and practicing the speech for 2 months straight?

It IS rather curious that George didn't mention OBL's name once in the past 2 SOTUS. Of course the Bushes and Bin Ladens go back decades......

13. Got that's probably right! I can just imagine
...the conversation. After Dick and Karl decided what was going to be in the speech, he throws a tantrum. "Want something f'r the sports fans. Wanna talk a little sports this year if I can. This steroid thing we was talkin about at dinner--why can't we put that in there?"

"Oh, all right, George, but you're gonna sound like an idiot...."
