When it comes to a response to Der Furher's address tonight. Ugh. Talk about to EMBARASSING light weights. I was briefly ashamed to be a democrat.

1. I concur
We should have had someone like Ted Kennedy or someone with lots of credibility within the Democratic party.

any other names you can think of?

2. Ted Kennedy would have been perfect.
At least he's got some substance to him. Some hutzpah. Like someone else said on another thread, Daschle and Pelosi looked like they were on thorazine. It was just horrendous.

Oh well, nobody will remember Bush's speech three days from now so Im pretty sure they won't remember our very limp response.

I'm sorry to sound like the "electablilty" crowd but Pelosi's face is beginning to look like her eyebrows might meet up with her chin somewhere near the back of her head here pretty soon. My man Daschle should stick to pounding the pavement for the non-destruction of medicare and leave public addresses to people who know what they are doing.

Frankly the Democratic response was embarrassing. I am so tired of The Dem Party attempting to appear positive. Seems to me when you are up to your neck in shit, remarking on what nice weather we're having ain't addressing the problem.

To hell with being nice. I have made it my mission to whole heartedly agree with any Republican who says I am a Bush Basher or a Bush Hater. I am....and I am damn proud of it. I hate any person who hates me. I hate Hitler, I hate Stalin, I hate Osama Bin Laden, I hate Saddam Hussein, I hate Tony Blair.....I hate all the fuckers who so ardently strive to turn our world to shit equally. I don't give a crap what language they speak, what color their skin is their claimed political bent or where they live. Evil is Evil and I hate Evil people equally....If given the opportunity I would or would have told any of the aforementioned that I hated them to their face and I'd tell them why. If addressing my constituency I would do the same and I would studiously give them the reason why they should as well. Consciously failing to address the evilness of an evil person is itself evil. It's called complicity. If I saw a guy committing robbery I wouldn't stand about and watch I'd scream STOP THIEF, run to the nearest phone and call the cops. Well our Democratic spokespeople are standing about watching thieves steal our country and our world. That is complicity. Particularly when these spokespeople are entrusted with the responsibility of protecting us from thieves. So one is left to wonder if they really don't have a problem with thieving evil people......only with their methods.

These two Democrats had unfettered media access last night and they pissed it away in grand style. We never get the mic and when we do it is handed of to mealy mouthed molly codling milk with toasts. Truly pathetic.

If Jacky or Ace is reading this post...please feel free to pass my sentiments on to Tom. I was pleasant to the man last time we conversed because he was doing a good thing.....what he did last night was unforgivable....and the straw that broke this camels back.

3. they actually do well
in their respective jobs, but they're not terribly inspiring as speakers.

I agree Ted Kennedy would've been great. This would've been a great year to get a great old liberal standard-bearer to respond.

5. Certainly we could do better but
How in hell do we actually get the right people in the talking/leadership positions??????????

When I write to various Dem email addys, they won't respond because I don't live where they "work". Is there a central mail/phone number where the citizens can write to the whole of the Democratic congress??? I mean, WHO'S IN CHARGE here!!!????

10. why can't we have more say in who speaks for us?
one of Hillary's jobs is help coordinate the Democratic message, i.e., who speaks for Democrats ... she might not be the sole decider, but I believe she has a Senate leadership role (Steering and Coordination Committee Chair) involving this process of who speaks.

Does anyone ever listen to us?

Out of the spotlight, Clinton quietly climbed into the ranks of the Senate Democratic leadership.

In January, Daschle selected her to head the Senate Democratic Steering Committee, which places lawmakers on committees. But more central to her aspirations, that post will allow her to serve as a liaison to core Democratic constituencies.

The position in leadership also gives her a hand in crafting and refining the Democratic message.

A solid relationship with Democratic allies such as unions, trial lawyers and environmental groups, and a major say in the party’s message would serve her well in any future White House bid.

I'm tired of the same old bland voices when we have some great people under utilized, if at all.

What about Ted? Barbara Mikulski? Barbara Lee? Byrd? Feingold? Durbin? or someone off the Hill, Jim Hightower???

Sometimes I wonder if it isn't intentional.

One almost has to hunt down the senate.gov info using Daschle's website to launch the Party info.

The Steering Committee, chaired by Senator Hillary Clinton (NY), works with Senate Democrats to develop and maintain relationships with leaders and organizations off of Capitol Hill. In its capacity as liaison between the Democratic Caucus and elected officials, constituency groups, and community organizations across the country, the Steering Committee keeps individuals and groups apprised of the positions, proposals, and activities of Senate Democrats, while reaching out to build relationships with communities and groups across the United States.
