Okay I've heard about how Bush* did but how did Daschel/Peloise do? |
|
I haven't seen a single thread about the Democratic rebuttle. Did we do that badly that no one wants to talk about it?

1. The message was right but it was no Dean speech. |
|
My take: Pelosi lost her place embarassingly, Daschle was good but was er, Daschle - nice but not enough fang. Ted K would have been a better choice.

4. Isn't it protocol for the democratic leaders in the house and senate |
|
to do the rebuttle? I don't think there was a choice.
I thought the rebuttle was fine. Good points were made and they showed alot of failures in foreign and domestic policy from the administration. I will grant that the delivery was kind of lame, but the message was good.

2. We could have done better |
|
As for the Democratic response:
Senator Daschle: His usual dishrag personality. While he made some very good points, he just comes across as too timid to be a leader. I'm not saying he should have pulled a Dean, but a little animation would have been nice.
Congresswoman Pelosi: Her national security remarks were good, but a bit low-key, almost like she was afraid of offending anyone. What everyone in the office here was talking about was her appearance, though. Her eyes looked like they were going to pop right out of their sockets. Was this a case of too much Botox??
I would have much rather seen another speaker: Senator Mary Landrieu, Congressman Harold Ford, Senator Russ Feingold, or even a governor like Granholm of Michigan or Kernan of Indiana.

3. I think there was a thread or two last night. My take: |
|
What they said wasn't too bad. But I think their smiley presentations made them look mealymouthed. Granted, reactions to Dean's performance the night before may have shot a warning across their bow; but their presentations should have reflected disgust, disdain and anger at Bush*'s preposterous State of the Union address. Kerry and Clark had better impromptu reactions to the speech than those given, presumably with considerable preparation, by Daschel and Peloise.

5. I fell asleep while Bush was Yammering |
|
And woke up to see Daschle and Pelosi. Nothing against either of these fine people, but for the definite lack of excitement. I could almost hear the collective sound of millions changing the TV channel. Teddy would have been sooo much a better choice. Went back to sleep.

6. Message itself was fine |

but delivery was off, and too much make-up (on both of them).

Pelosi has had some scary face lift and was otherwise stiff as a board. Daschle, he was prattling on like he was gonna vote for Bush. These idiots are afraid to take him on, I wish they had Ted Kennedy do it!
I only watched part of the SOTU on replay but I was seething from all the lies and omissions; their response seemed so weak, so timid, I'm actually more mad at them than at Shrub!

9. Why didn't they contrast Clinton sucessfull police action/containment w/ * |
|
The US over 7 1/2 years without a terrorist attack (by foreign terrorists) during the Clinton administration. The terrorists responsible for the one attack that did occur were captured, tried and convicted.
How is bushes recored better? He was AWOL IN 1973 AND AGAIN IN 2001. The record of the Dems is as good if not better then the record of the repugs.

Pelosi stumbled as much as the moron* putting the two side by you'de think they were long lost twins. I kept waiting for her to blink, in fact I was shouting blink, blink damn you, but she never did. I don't know what Daschle was trying to pull off, but it didn't work whatever it was.
I wish they would have used someone else to respond, all in all it made us look lame and foolish, hopefully people will forget it soon.

I agree with some of the posters above. I thought the message was fine, Pelosi could have been more hard-hitting on some issues; but the verbage was for the most part OK. Her delivery however, was pretty sub-par.
Daschel's words were great, but his delivery could not have been worse! He sounded like a smarmy used-car salesman. :puke: Daschel needs to have extensive voice-coaching lessons. I've never been more serious. Even shrub could have done a better job delivering that exact same speach that Daschel gave. It was pure embarassment.
Maybe we could flood Daschel's office with donations towards getting a speach coach. It sure couldn't hurt!
