I just had to inform my Repub. boss on who owns the Wash. Times
and UPI

He came into my office and told me that the Washington Times agreed with me, *cough* *sputter* *gag*

We had been talking about football so it's not that bad, I guess. Some writer for the Washington Times sports section agreed with me that last year might have been the blip in history with regards to the New England Patriots and not the year before when they won the Super Bowl.

As I was laughing at him for saying that the Times has a better sports department than the Post I had to ask him,"Do you know who OWNS that rag?"

He didn't believe me so I e-mailed him this.

Washington Post, May 16, 2000
By Yuki Noguchi
Nearly bankrupt and with only a skeletal staff, once-venerated United Press International found a financial savior yesterday in News World Communications Inc., owner of the Washington Times, which purchased the wire service's assets for an undisclosed amount.
UPI was a formidable competitor to the Associated Press until the 1980s, when it had 1,500 reporters and 200 bureaus around the globe. Since 1992, it has been owned by six Saudi Arabian families and now has 157 employees in Washington, London, Latin America and Asia--and few clients.
The wire service's new owner is controlled by the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church and the conservative voice behind the Times's editorials.

In May 2000, the media arm of Rev. Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church bought itself electronic fingers. News World Communications, Moon's media company, purchased United Press International (UPI), a once venerable news wire service. UPI, which provided news for media worldwide, could offer a legitimizing platform for Moon's dogma — if the new owners can revive the decrepit agency.

3. Damn I should have taken that bet
I have an aversion to gambling as I am bad at it but I KNEW that!

I am waiting to inform him of Moon's role in the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Oh yeah that is going to go over REAL well.

5. So, did his head explode?
Why don't you hunt down some of those photos of major Repugs, including Bush Sr. and Fundie preachers with Moon to show him (the one of Falwell and Moon comes immediately to mind)

10. No not yet but he is a regular Fox News watcher
He thinks that the news report with Sheppard Smith is the best on TV.

Wait until he realizes how often the quote the WT.

He is a very great boss and a good guy. This could be the opportunity to inform him that this is not his father's Republican party, a dicey situtation to bring up at work.

19. What if Moon is the antichrist?
Not that I believe in the literal prophecy of Revelation (John's Patmos acid trip), but Falwell certainly does. Then again, if Moon was the antichrist, wouldn't God have given Pat Robertson the word?

fundamentalists that Tim LaHaye, author of their beloved adolescent adventure series Left Behind is on the Moonie payroll.

15. I hope....
...you'll find that quote from Moon just a few days ago that was nutzoid to the extreme. Absolutely nutzoid.

Hopefully, someone has it. There was a thread just a few days ago.

And The Washington Post has the best archive of stories about Moon. Here's one, with links to more.

14. Maybe it's too much of a shock to his system
But he should know more about Moon and the Unification Church.

I lost my job in part for being too political, so I understand not being too confrontive.
