Florida DUers: do you know anyone who voted for both Gore and Jeb?
I don't understand how Gore could win Florida than have Jeb get 56% 2 years later after he's run the state into the ground for 4 years. Maybe the election year brought out higher urban turnout, but Jeb doing so well is why I'm skeptical of winning Florida, even if we get a clean election.

1. No
Frankly, I don't know what happened. I volunteered for the McBride campaign and still can't figure it out. I know someone with money sent glossy flier that were very misleading about McBride and taxes, though the tax was for the class size amendment which passed! Very screwy.
Also, I spent the day womaning a table near the polling area. I came back here for lunch and checked DU. Someone said Judy Woodruff on CNN had announced McBride was way ahead and also that Kathrine Harris was losing. There was another post that Drudge had exit polls up showing Democrats winning big, and that he suddenly pulled that info.
All the polling area, all day people gave me the thumbs up and one man said he hadn't voted for years but believed we had to get rid of the Bushes. Then, I came home all excited only to be let waaaay down later on. I couldn't get on DU for a week or more to get feedback from others, and we still haven't been allowed to see the exit polls which were so off, so I still don't know what the hell happened that day!

2. You could say the same about Georgia.
How this repub Governor got in office is a mystery to me along with the ouster of Senator Cleland for Chambliss.

3. I think it was because of 9/11

I volunteered for McBride, contributed some cash, and put up signs. However, I think many people were scared of change and Jebbie ran on his brother's coat tails. I don't think Jebbie will be that much help to his brother though. Just from talking with local Republicans, they've become pretty disgusted with Jebbie. They all spout the Republican philosphy such as high stakes testing, tax cuts for the wealthy, and low environmental enforcement but when it directly affects them their view suddenly becomes more Democratic.

4. Well we have closed most of our Mental Health Facilities.
So there might be a couple here and there.
