The guy is an ultraconservative nut case. His position might be anti-bush, however it is anti-bush because it is so extreme right wing.

30. No, it isn't bullshit. It's straight talk from a Goldwater Republican. |
|
In that sense, he's always starting from a RADICALLY different vantage point than anyone who regularly posts on these boards.
While I do find many of his views to be just plain nuts (like on the use of military force, for instance), I do admire him for pointing out the hypocrisy within the ranks of his own party, and for championing noble causes like campaign finance reform.

He is right wing, but he's the real thing and that's a big difference between him and the crooks in charge of his party. Real right wingers are for fiscal responsibility and individual rights. We may disagree on many issues, but there is common ground. I have no common ground with those who would loot and pillage my country.

It's pretty obvious that * is being criticized by the right side of his party over his out of control spending.
I doubt if these right wingers will vote democratic, but they may just stay home in November... or vote Libertarian in protest.

None of the nut cases are going to shift. This is all just a good natured gripe fest that bush isn't right wing enough, and should come down harder on the "entitlements" - Social Security and Medicare.

12. McCain wants to revisit a lot of things not on the Dems' agenda |
|
McCain wants all the pork out of this omnibus bill. The Dems would be happy putting back the country-of-origin beef labeling requirement, the prohibition of the anti-overtime Labor Dept. rules; and rolling back the loosening of cross-ownership of media outlets.
To his credit, McCain is attacking that last issue. I'm not sure that his agenda meshes with the Dems' otherwise though.
My point is that I am not sure if there is enough cohesiveness to repair the damage in this bill before enough Dems give up and vote for it.
I was very unhappy that my senator Patty Murray voted for cloture yesterday.

24. I don't know if McCain is that Ultra Conservative |
|
McCain and Lieberman tried to get a bill passed to limit greenhouse gase emmissions this past session. I disagree with McCain on a lot of issues but I don't fully agree with any politicians on all the issues. I'd rather have more Republicans like McCain than the Repukes like Tom Delay, Santorum, and Hatch.

That's the main difference between McCain and the likes of which you mentioned above. DeLay, Sanctimonium and Hatch aren't "conservative" -- they're reactionary. McCain IS ultra-conservative -- but in the sense of Barry Goldwater ultra-conservative.

We have to remember how the Fright Wing has framed things the last 25-30 years... Goldwater is now seen as fairly moderate when he was seen as almost laughably far right 40 years ago. 40 years ago, Bill Clinton (smaller gov't, cutting back welfare, free trade, etc) would have been a moderate Republican or a conservative Democrat, but was framed as a liberal, pot smoking, draft dodging, womanizing hippy.

his constituents are angry. That means the people who voted for him are giving him an earful. That is the only thing that makes these guys pay attention.
Now a days, everything is decided in real time, in the court of public opinion. Looks like Bu$hCo is about to implode. I hope they go down as nice and neat, as the WTC.
