Lou Dobbs --- On a roll!!
Edited on Wed Jan-21-04 06:32 PM by economic justice
Lou Dobbs has another in his series, "Overwhelmed America"....tonight it's "America's crumbling infrastructure." He also just went on another tangent against so-called "free trade" and the loss of our manufacturing base. Today, the new issue of U.S. News & World Report is out with an EXCELLENT column by Dobbs:
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/issue/040126/opinion/26dobbs.htm

A SAMPLING:
Despite last week's report that our trade deficit declined in November, the 2003 U.S. trade deficit will be the largest on record, and our market is flooded with cheap foreign imports while consumers who want to buy American-made products often can't even find them.

Most Americans would like to support domestic manufacturers by buying U.S.-made products, but chances are that most of us own goods made predominantly outside the United States. Wal-Mart alone imported $12 billion in goods last year from China.

Seventy-six percent of consumers who look for U.S.-made products say that they have a hard time finding them, and the reason for this is simple: We've given away our manufacturing base through "free" trade. In 1951, the average U.S. trade tariff was approximately 15 percent. By 1979 the average industrial tariff had sunk to 5.7 percent, and now it is just under 3 percent. Most foreign importers enjoy nearly unrestricted access to the U.S. marketplace. As a result, Americans have become the world's greatest customers, with the country accumulating a trade deficit every year since 1976.

3. wrong on the war, but good on domestic issues
GREAT on domestic issues. He keeps a "corporate crooks scorecard" and slams Bush and his domestic policies DAILY on his show.

10. Oh yeah
heard that the other night and just turned him off. Using Druge as a source too weird. Got the feeling he doesn't like Clark.

Despite having the flu, he's on tonight saying all the right things. Amazing how much he's changed over the last (especially) six months.

13. It is interesting his recent change and hostility
towards policy of this administration. Alot of things in the news lately are strange. I believe the whore media including CNN ABC CBS NBC et al, drive majority American opinion. The word is out, it has been decided by those that decide such things that *W is done. He has served his purpose, but someone else shall finish us off. They have a new man for the job.
