Did anyone see Bush claim Osama wasn't behind 9/11 in SOTU?
On my third listen of the state of the union just now I realized Bush made the claim the "mastermind" of 9/11 had been captured. Did anyone else notice this?

Guess what - it wasn't Osama though. It was a person with the last name Muhammad. (not even going to try to spell the first part)

I suspect that this is what the strategy is when he is asked in the debates "Where's Osama?". He'll say THIS guy was the mastermind, and he already captured him. Therefore he got the guy behind 9/11.

Anyway - just wondering if anyone else caught this...

2. I remember it. I also remember the capture. In one night the
guy went from #22 most wanted to being #1 and the mastermind. Reports from overseas said the Pakastani police raided his apartment, messed up everything and left. Next day they said he was arrested at the apartment and was the mastermind. No one has seen him since.

Let's face it, Bush can claim he got the top 100 al Quada people, list their names and I bet no one would know the difference or who they were. Sounds good in the media though doesn't it. Great food for SOTU's too.

5. Sadly I think you are right
I'm sure in the coming months we will be told Osama was really just a "sympathizer" and they only wanted him for embassy bombings.

9. Actually, in all seriousness,
I'll bet we start seeing the idea that Osama was strictly the money-man.

3. Wasn't he killed in a gunfight in Sept of '02 in Pakistan?
Then we captured him in early '03.

We'll snare him again in October of '04.

I support recycling, but not like this.

15. I think I've read/seen more than three...
And we've also had several different guys labeled "The Mastermind" behind the 9-11 attacks. Yusef, then that Ron Jeremy lookalike they got later and at least a couple of other ones.

It's like a damned Sax Rohmer story, except it's got the imprimatur of the American press on it.

6. Hey, has BushCo ever produced one iota of evidence
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 06:37 PM by SpiralHawk
that bin Laden was involved in 9/11? And has bin Laden every claimed involvement or responsibility? I don't think so. I've never seen anything. Where is the beef?

We apparently had no evidence for going after bin Laden in Afghanistan, just as we had no evidence that Iraq had WMD or was in any way involved with 9/11.

Follow the cookie crumbs. They lead to BushCo's dear pals in Saudi Arabia -- the folks who have financed the Bushes, and danced the ugly financial dance with them in the corrupt machinations of BCCI.

But I am beginning to rant...

Let the truth be revealed. May justice prevail.

8. Don't forget the October Surprise rumors of his capture...
Perhaps King George made a slip saying the mastermind was captured.
It would be political suicide if Bush and Co. have had Osama since before the Iraq war wouldn't it...507 dead and it didn't have to happen if the pertetrator of 9-11 was already in custody?

Maybe that is why the rumor isn't going away.

10. Probably true. They have never produced anything but skimpy circumstantia
evidence linking this to 9-11. Far more circumstantial evidence and probably concrete evidence exists that Bush and the Saudis were very likely involved.

11. transcript
i refused to watch/listen to the moran, so i don't know if this is accurate, but the white house transcript says:

"America is on the offensive against the terrorists who started this war. Last March, Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, a mastermind of September the 11th, awoke to find himself in the custody of U.S. and Pakistani authorities."

"a" and not "the"

13. Same thing
this simply suggests there is more than one. How much do you want to bet Bush has captured all of them by november, and Osama doesn't happen to be one of them? If anything capturing lots of masterminds is a lot better than capturing one mastermind.
