The Democrats I see on TV are stupid!
Edited on Sat Jan-24-04 01:40 AM by glarius
Democrats are stupid....I've just seen another one on TV pointing out the faults of fellow Democrats....in case Republicans can't find enough mud to throw at them!....Mark Shields was on with Aaron Brown, listing all the reasons Dean would be "unacceptable" to the average American as a president....Apparently this is Shield's idea of being helpful to Dean...Every day you see these Democratic and liberal spokespeople on television "helping" the Democratic cause....Donna Brazile comes to mind...and Paul Begala....WHEN do you EVER see a Republican even conceding the truth about one of their own?...The more I see these people, the more I wonder....Why don't they play the same game as the Republicans who are relentless in their devotion to their party....If Dean had been a Republican, the right wingers would have been all over TV explaining that he wasn't ANGRY when he made his little speech, just a little over exuberant....But the Democrats have allowed the Republicans to characterize his outburst as ANGER!....In my opinion he was over the top, but NOT angry....He was laughing for heaven's sake.....There I got that off my chest....This characteristic of the Democrats I have seen on TV has been bothering me for a while....I'm not American so perhaps I'm judging too much from TV, but that's how it looks from here....
P.S. I'm rooting for ANY Dem. to beat Bush!

1. These are not Democrats. They are the "democrats"
allowed to be on TV as long as they diss their own. I watched Mark Shields earlier on PBS rag on Dean. I ordinarily consider PBS a bit of a sane haven from the MWs and I was really upset. But Mark Shields does the Capital Gang show on CNN on Saturday, so he is part of the problem.

3. How about Paul Begala?.....do you find him a little too eager to criticize
fellow Democrats?....Sometimes he's almost as bad as Tucker Carlson...I just don't get it!

6. Actually, besides Paul, who isn't always awful, I was
pretty mad at James Carville yesterday. He dissed Dean and Clark. Paul actually brought up the AWOL thing today and defended Moore and Clark on it. But, it's true, all they do is apologize most of the time. No real Democrat is really allowed any airtime without a lot of interruptions, rude questions and basically being told they are out of line.

9. I'm watching this from afar, so maybe I'm missing something, but it seems
to me that Democrats are just too honest and nice...The Republicans, despite all the smiles seem to be much more ruthless and act as if anything goes, as long as you win....

8. Ha ha.
He was never on telly that much until recently when he changed his tune. No more main stream for Mr. Shields, I think.

7. I'd put it the other way. They're Democrats, all right.
But they're not democrats. They don't care about the democracy. They care about the status quo.

16. Sorry that you think that way.
I find dean to be a provincial politician that needed to be criticized. dean is not the benchmark democrat. I never watch much TV. i like to think for myself.
all i know of cable is what i hear here. political cable is like the Dead Cat Cafe, you eat there and then complain paying all the way.

2. Because they play a particular ROLE for the Republicans
The Repubs set the agenda and terms of debate, and the New Democrats look for anyone in their party who will not play along and attack them. This way, the media lets the 'nice' ones keep their political career.

10. The medium is the message.
TV is bad for removing the * plague.

Yes, I'm blaming the messenger, news director, editors, etc.

11. I agree, they're all whores
that's why we need to elect someone who will CLEAN HOUSE.

We need to sweep all these fuckers OUT.

We need a major purge of the party, we need to 100% re-create it.

These people are not our friends. They are part of the problem, not the solution. They are part of the whore media.

12. You can add Bill Maher to the list
he spent the last ten minutes of his show slamming Dean.

What a fucking asshole.

I wanted to puke in my hand and throw it in his face. But it was just my television set.

He just doesn't get it.

None of these assholes get it.

I don't think he's the strongest choice, but if he's ultimately annointed I will be glad to be proved wrong.

Just saying.

17. There is a real fight going on in the Democratic party...
...that is as vicious as the battle between Republicans and Democrats. It's between the corporatists/DLC versus the progressive Howard Dean/Gore/Bradley wing of the party. Noone is pulling their punches. The control over the Party is more important than the eventual fate of the Party's nominee's ultimate chances in the general. Mark Shields hobnobs with Paul Begala at NY Knicks games. This is the Clinton wing. And they've been carrying out character assasination of Dean for weeks now.

19. Dead on, Printer70
The corporatists/DLC are an oligarchy seeking to "colonize" the Democratic Party. They are better than the Pubbies right now, but in a few years, who knows ... you might really need a scorecard to see any difference between the Dems and the Pubbies if the DLC wins it all. Right now, they're glad to suck off the energy created by the Dean/Bradley/Gore insurgency like so many vampires. They hope to transform that energy into enthusiastic support for someone like Clark or Lieberman.

18. Dean is too real.
Dean upsets people because he is real. Seems that most people want a phony person. I have heard Dean speak several times and his msg. rings true to me. So what if he is boisterous or gets angry at times. That makes him human in my view. What does Presidential mean? If it means to be like Dubya then I don't want anyone as President that is "Presidential".

20. Elected Democrats are cowards
Look at the elected leadership - Daschle and Pelosi - both of them let Republicans define them and neither wants to anger anyone for fear of not getting invited to the good parties.

Mostly our elected Democrats suck.
