By Andrew Buncombe in Washington
24 January 2004

David Kay, who stood down yesterday as head of the Bush administration's hunt for weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, said that he did not believe that any stockpiles of such weapons ever existed.

Mr Kay, a former UN inspector, said that most of what was going to be found in the hunt for Saddam Hussein's WMD had already been uncovered. The returning of sovereignty to the Iraqis would make the search more difficult, he added. "I don't think they existed," Mr Kay said, referring to Saddam's alleged stockpiles of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. "What everyone was talking about is stockpiles produced after the end of the <1991> Gulf War and I don't think there was a large-scale production programme in the Nineties."

Mr Kay's comments will be an embarrassment for the Bush administration. Earlier this week the Vice-President, Dick Cheney, one of Washington's most outspoken hawks who led the rallying cry for war insisting that Saddam possessed WMD, said the outcome of the search was not clear. "I think the jury is still out," he said. "It's going to take ... time to look in all of the cubby holes and ammo dumps in Iraq."

Despite having the resources of more than 1,000 personnel dedicated to the hunt for such weapons, an interim report issued by Mr Kay in October conceded that no weapons had been found, even though there was evidence Iraq had retained the "template" of a weapons programme.

1. yellow
poppy bush had the 'wimp factor' thing.

junior is just plain yellow. he's a texas-sized wuss who felt he had to prove his machismo by shooting an unarmed man in the back. at least, that's the old west version of the story.

in fact, saddam lives, it's saddam's defenders, a large number of innocent iraqis, and several hundred of america's most valiant and brave who died at bush's hand.

allegedly because bush said we all had to fear saddam, a thoroughly inspected, provably unarmed man. we had to fear his awesome ability to design and fabricate and deliver wmds without the u.n. noticing. now we know that he was unarmed, and we known that they knew he was unarmed.

what cowardice.

well, that's if you believe what they tell you. in truth, we all know that bush didn't fear saddam's wmds, it was always just a pretext for a war that he wanted because they'd been itching for it ever since poppy pulled out.

so bush wasn't yellow at all. he wanted us to fear, but he knew there was no threat.

what do you call someone like that?

one-termer, hopefully.

2. Iraqi weapons sent to Syria: Kay
http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/01/25/1074965423080.html

David Kay, the outgoing leader of a US weapons search team in Iraq, said that part of Saddam Hussein's secret weapons program was hidden in Syria, a published report said today.

Kay reportedly told The Sunday Telegraph that he had uncovered evidence that unspecified materials were moved to Syria shortly before last year's war to overthrow Saddam.

"We are not talking about a large stockpile of weapons but we know from some of the interrogations of former Iraqi officials that a lot of material went to Syria before the war, including some components of Saddam's WMD (weapons of mass destruction) program," Kay reportedly said in the interview conducted.

"Precisely what went to Syria, and what has happened to it, is a major issue that needs to be resolved," he added.

3. That doesn't say weapons were sent to Syria. . .
it says components of a weapons program were sent to Syria.

Those would be part of them there "weapons of mass destruction-related program activities" you've heard tell about.

4. Someone threaten Kay's life--as usual??
Funny, the Jan 24th article mentions nothing about WMD or programs being moved into Syria before Chimp's invasion. Yet the other article dated a day later says that Kay had "uncovered evidence" that em.."unspecified" materials had been moved to Syria.

Now why wouldn't he have said that in the UK article? Kay has stepped down, looks like he'll have to suicide himself before to long. He can't continue to run around saying that there are no WMD in Iraq.

8. It's almost funny to watch administration officials claim
that they never said Hussein had WMD's, or that he posed an imminent threat. While it's true that Bush never used the word "imminent", he and his team used every synonym they could come up with. Threats of "mushroom clouds", "gathering threats", etc. were literally broadcast every single day.

It's funny to me that the same rhetorical games that allowed the administration to morph bin Laden into Hussein have now made their WMD arguments into something they can't just wish away.
