Bush AWOL: The smoking jet, from democrats.com
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 02:17 AM by TruthIsAll
The media let this story die in Nov. 2000, despite the efforts of Senators Inouye and Bob Kerrey, among others, to speak out against the sorry Bush TANG record.

Talk about teflon.

Well, Mr. Jennings, it worked for you in 2000, but not this time.

Bush's Military Record Reveals Grounding and Absence
for Two Full Years
by Robert A. Rogers
(ret. 1st Lt. Mission Pilot)

With two years left in his six-year obligation to the Texas Air National Guard, 1st Lt. George W. Bush was mysteriously suspended from flight - and never again reported for a single day of duty.

Robert A. Rogers is a self-employed Northern Virginia businessman and an Air National Guard veteran of eleven years, 1954 through 1965. After this he had a 30-year career in the commercial airline industry, including independent consulting with various US Government civilian agencies and military services.

Major Findings

"I think that people need to be held responsible for the actions they take in life. I think that's part of the need for a cultural change. We need to say that each of us needs to be responsible for what we do." – George W. Bush in the first Presidential debate, October 3, 2000.

''I did the duty necessary ... That's why I was honorably discharged" – George W. Bush, May 23, 2000

From the beginning of his Presidential campaign, George W. Bush has forcefully and repeatedly insisted that he faithfully fulfilled all his military obligations by serving his time as a member of the Texas Air National Guard.

But the first independent investigation of Bush's military record by a former Air National Guard pilot has revealed the following:

1. Pilot George W. Bush did not simply "give up flying" with two years left to fly, as has been reported. Instead, Bush was suspended and grounded, very possibly as a direct or indirect result of substance abuse.

2. The crucial evidence – a Flight Inquiry Board – that would reveal the true reasons for Bush's suspension, as well as the punishment that was recommended, is missing from the records released so far. If no such Board was convened, this raises further questions of extraordinary favoritism.

3. Contrary to Bush's emphatic statements and several published reports, Bush never actually reported in person for the last two years of his service – in direct violation of two separate written orders. Moreover, the lack of punishment for this misconduct represents the crowning achievement of a military career distinguished only by favoritism.

5. You noticed too?
And a Democrat whose a Viet Nam vet to boot! Might magnanimous of him to tell us to forget it. We should probably forget about the 500 who died in Iraq on a lie told by this unelected Chickenhawk, too. Odd that it seems to steam a lot of VietNam vets, but Mr. Nam has gone out of his way in another thread to forget this issue.....hmmmm.

It's all about character, that's what people vote on...that's why this is important.

Maybe if we hadn't forgotten this story in 2000, Dimson would be chopping cedar fulltime in Crawford today.

6. Absolutely.
Nobody got a chance to witness Bush's real character in 2000 with the media swooning over his "charm". Since we now have a pampered, elitist, self-deluded, pseudo-religious, schoolyard bully for president, I'd say that character is a bit of an issue...

10. The media "swooned"
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 04:43 AM by SoCalDem
They gladly accepted their "pet" nicknames, their free rides on his corporate sponsored jets, the free food, and their gaze was averted..

He was proclaimed as "a bit rough" when he stammered and could not even pronounce 4th grade words..

We was proclaimed a "fun guy to be around" because he joked around and avoided their questions..

He was proclaimed a "changed man" because he TOLD them he quit the booze..(did anyone bother to delve further??)

He was proclaimed a "sincere" person because he could crank out a tear here and there..

He was given a "pass" on the military thing, even though everyone in his party went out of their way to ridicule Gore's service(he actually went to Viet Nam, even though he was not on the front line)...and lets not forget the 9 year orgy of hatred these same people directed at Clinton..They all insisted he was a draft dodger, even though he did register...

The 2000 campaign "media" was the prototype for the new and improved "embeds".. We saw them in action in the "war" and now we have them again as campaign propagandists..

Bush is "style" over substance, and apparently that's just the way the media likes it..

Toss the little buffoon a few marshmallow questions, and then cluck cluck over his "answers".. Carefully wipe the sticky gooey mess off his face , comb his hair, straighten his tie, and THEN put the camera on him.. He's a buffoon.. but he's THEIR buffoon..

3. I agree we need to (and decidedly do!) offer a positive alternative
but we also need to hold the figurehead of the Bush PNAC Junta accountable for his actions.

This was not a schoolboy getting educational deferments to stay out of the service. This was criminal and shows the pattern of entitlement that is at the heart of the GOP's class war against the middle class.

4. This sort of either/or thinking will doom us all.
Yes, show that the Dems have real answers to the catastrophe caused by the Coward-and-Thief. But NEVER stop denouncing this illegitimate son of corporatism for the swindler and cheat that he is. Suggesting that one is incompatible with the other is silly.

8. This is an isseu that is for today.
We have an AWOL cheat with the reigns of this country in his hands.

Clinton, Gore and Dean didn't go AWOL. They didn't break a promise made to their countrymen and fellow servicemen under the flag, with their hands on their hearts 'so help them God'.

Try again....you ain't gonna get any traction around here with such crap.

14. "or Gore got favors,"
Maybe you could elaborate a little. Just how did Gore get favors? He was the son of a US Senator and could easily have gotten a deferment. He chose not to and enlisted as an enlisted man not an officer. He went to Vietnam not Texas. What favors are you referring to? Him being a journalist? He was a journalist before joining the Army and if I remember correctly when enlisting you are allowed to chose what type of service you prefer. You don't always get what you want but a lot of the time especially if you have qualifications you do. Gore did. So what favors do you mean?

15. It is about how he regards his responsibilities. Is he treating his
presidency like he treated his NG service? Will he dump us in favor of something more of interest to him or his family?

16. Thanks for letting us know which issues
push your buttons. BUSH WENT AWOL! Prove he didn't. Show me his military records. Oh he refuses to release them? Gee, I can't imagine why? He is the Commander in Chief after all?

13. It's not just going AWOL
It's the reason he went AWOL. He could NOT take the physcial, too much blue flake in his system. He was a drug user and a deserter while in 1968 more than 15,000 died.
