The Thing About Dennis Miller
I read an article today in which Miller basically laid out that he won't go after Bush. I'm in no way surprised by this, but I think this confirms for all those who doubted, that Dennis is straight up conservative. Has anyone else seen this? I like Dennis Miller, and I kind of respect him for being honest about it (unlike Matthews, O'Reilly, and the others). The thing that bothers me is that underneath all the comedy and stuff, there is supposed to be a news show somewhere, yet to him its all entertainment. Another one bites the dust.

The real thing that bothers me about him now is that he, like the right-wingers that invite him to their fund raisers equates Bush with America, meaning that to support Bush (or the war) is to support America, and to oppose Bush is oppose America. So, if Hollywwod liberals dissent from Bush, their patriotism is questioned, and Miller says "I support Bush because I'm a patriot."

I understand that Bush is his friend. I understand he supported the war (I did as well). The problem is, supporting the President NO MATTER WHAT doesn't make you a patriot, it makes you a sheep. If the President is always right, then how come Clinton didn't fall under that banner? The fact is, is doesn't work both ways, and they know it doesn't. The double standard is obvious. Of course, they'll say that Clinton had all his scandals, and Bush is different. How? It's not like Clinton was a saint, but how is Bush any different?

9. Same argument I used against the Kosovo war...thing was...
...I was demonized by most democrats for it. I'm happily consistent on not supporting this war either because it's also based on lies.

Not one of us is perfectly reasonable and perfectly informed. That goes for our politicians too.

3. Besides, it's not like * hasn't had any scandals
By now he's had more than Clinton.
Most of which he blames on Clinton, even with no connection.
Amazing how clinton is responsible for all bad things...Dennis Miller had a hand in that too.

18. but Clinton's scandals were so much worse...
Because he was unfaithful to his wife. That is WAY worse than sending people off to get killed, killing civilians, bankrupting the government, stealing elections, appointing religious zealots to the bench, yadda, yadda, yadda.... (sarcasm off now)

I'm just as confused as anyone why lying about a BJ or two is far worse than any war crime committed by the * cabal.

4. Well..
"I think this confirms for all those who doubted, that Dennis is straight up conservative."

No, actually, it doesnt prove that he's a conservative.
All it proves is that he's a 100% authentic Bush nut-hugger.

He says he is conservative on a lot of issues, but he said he only really started becoming conservative because of the criticism of Rudy Giuliani. Now, he basically supports Bush on everything, in order to appear like a patriot. I guess that's not really conservative at all, just being a gutless whore. Honestly, I can't figure out what I still like about him.

17. He became a conservative because of attacks on Rudy Guliani?
Since when is Rudy a conservative? Last I checked, he was a moderate.
I like Rudy, he's one of maybe three repubs I like (Former Gov. William Milliken and McCain being the other two). Dennis Miller is just trying to go with what he thinks is popular opinion. He'll probably be a liberal again if he perceives the public leaning that way.

But my bigger question to you is why did you support the Iraqi invasion? And, knowing (for certain) what we know now, do you still think it was the right decision?

5. The people whao are bankrolling DM's "show" alsp bankrolled
Schwarzenpecker's goobernatorial run. In fact, some of the hype of Dennis' first few shows is the promised appearance of Ahnuld himself. And DM has shown in the last year that he's not afraid of lyin down with dogs. Conflict of interest? This show will be just another branch of the Junta.

Remember, Dennis, the best comedy is that which comes from seeing the powerful exposed as fallible. That's why Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks, et al. are HEROES while you are a smug and unfunny Bushlicker. Your comedy will have no sting, except to a few CEO's.

6. i started a separate thread about
dm, and should have just posted here -

If he thinks he can hitch his star to Bush's and people are gonna actually want him around after we redefeat Bush, he is sorely misguided. When his name and bush's name become one and the same and it sounds exactly like loser, his reThug friends will forget his name so fast it is going to be embarrassing. Dennis Who....... oh yes he is the one that had the failed show that tried the hate radio format on tv. what was his name again?

8. Come on guys
the only reason Miller is doing this is because his career was taking a dump after his MNF debacle. The guy is a whore through and through who's just trying to keep his not funny act alive. PERIOD!

11. thank you....
.... it is very clear that Miller will do whatever it takes to remain viable as an act. If it means selling out your country, well, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I'd be happy to never see him mentioned here again. He's not big enough to worry about and he never will be. He will soon fade into well-deserved obscurity, he's playing his last card as we speak.

13. Put A Fork In Him -- HE'S DONE!
WOW is his schtick ever tired. The last time I saw him on Bill Maher's Real Time it was flat-out embarassing, all his "clever yet obscure" references went THUD.

From what I can see, the GOPs don't really like him either. After this MSNBC show, he won't be able to be arrested in this town. He'll be on the freaking cruise ships, that's his next stop.

14. I'm not American but.........
I'm British and in this country the majority of people think that we were lied to about the reasons for going to war, that's correct, an actual MAJORITY!!!...

But most of us who opposed the war like to think of ourselves as patriotic...

To be a true patriot you have got to hold your government to account when you feel it is wrong and it goes against the will of the people. If this means in Denis Miller's philosophy that I am not a patriot then that's fine because it's only that nit wit saying it, and let's face it, his opinion carries absolutely no weight with me or anyone else that I know...

15. Dennis Miller is the only person in the world I would back
for being a bigger asshole than dubya. Can't stand the guy. Never could. I'd call him a prick if I knew he had one. What a loser. How can you be a comedian and extol the system? What a joke. He's conservative because he got rich, the worse reason of all. The only people who think he's good are people who can't understand what the fuck he is saying. They think he's intellectual. What a waste of oxygen.

16. promo whoring on the Today Show
Boosh grabbing the bullhorn at the WTC is what transformed Din-Din into a "true believer". The way he "led our country" and "took control of the situation". (converted by a photo-op....how patriotic)

Miller stated he was a liberal on social issues. For proof they showed a pic of him with noted liberal John McCain.

Even had a sweet shot of Dim Son and Din-Din.

Then there's the monkey, not Boosh, but a "borrowed idea" from the early years of the Today Show where a monkey would appear on the set when things get a tad too "deep".

All in all he seemed rather pathetic. I guess the money's good.

What a disingenuous piece-o-shit. Miller's arc: Young, hip, SNL poser to old, crusty, RNC mouthpiece. Talk about turning in to your dad as you age. He better hope that pendulum stays broken at far right, because this is his last shot.

24. He was on NBC Today show
and said that he was liberal until he saw Bush with that bullhorn at the ruins of the WTC. Yes, I know. I, too, thought that finally Bush looked and said the right thing.

But... to admire him for doing and saying what he was supposed to have said and done? His immediate remarks on that Sept. 11, as well as his comments after the Columbia disaster made me cringe.

I remember my eyes filled with tears as I was driving home from work listening to Reagan eulogizing the Challenger, and, at the same time, reminding myself that he did not write these words. They were Peggy Noonan's of course.

Many compare Bush to Reagan but he cannot even act presidential the way Reagan did.

That was still smoking. Some pep rally.

Even knowing less about the leadup to September 11th than I do now, I thought he was contemptible.

29. I never thought Miller anything but... a non-liberal
Something about his remarks always struck a warning bell in me.

From SNL on, Miller never (ever-not once) struck me as a liberal. That nagging feeling that the man wasn't quite what he seemed...

He would speak-joke-rant...and there was always the feeling that his words weren't keeping with his character. That he went for the laugh and never missed a chance to make a cutting remark...but that his convictions were otherwise.

to your statement. I agree with you. The rightwing hatefests are just screeds that any moron could make. Many of these guys are really uneducated and ill-informed. But, mostly, they're lazy. It's easy to get their audiences going because their audiences are even less informed. My rightwing hate-radio loving brother-in-law didn't even know who Karl Rove is.
