vomit alert: bush quote re: his military service
This was from a syndicated feature in my local Sunday paper,
apparently originated in the Dallas Morning News.
I figure it has run in loads of smaller markets.

The article was titled"Who they Were at 20"
and has paragraphs from the Dem candidates PLUS the following howler from the Liar in chief - pulled from one of his official sites.

(Really - this will make you puke so remember to cover up your keyboard before reading)

George W. Bush, 57

"We were young men trying to enjoy what should have been the last carefree days of youth. But we could no longer be the same cavalier college students. We all knew that something was fundamentally, frighteningly wrong. We discussed Vietnam, but we were more concerned with the decision each of us had to make: military service or not. I knew I would serve.

"Leaving the country to avoid the draft was not an option for me; I was too conservative and too traditional. My inclination was to support the government and the war until proven wrong, and that only came later, as I realized we could not explain the mission, had no exit strategy and did not seem to be fighting to win."

The 'bush military record" thread suggests writing LTTE to our own papers.

If yours happpened to have run this, what a nice jumping- off point to talk about aWol vs deserter!

2. Hmmmm.
we could not explain the mission, had no exit strategy and did not seem to be fighting to win.

Sound like another war we might be fighting right now?
So, then, it is okay to question the Commander-in-Chief if your name is Bush.

7. Shout it from coast to coast
"I knew I would serve." - "I was too conservative." - No george, you did not serve, you hung out. And since you were too conservative - i.e. - rich/white, you did not go to Nam, you are here today so you can't "explain your mission or your exit strategy." And, george, the only thing you are fighting to win is the next election. Please tell us why karl and ed are not touting your military record since Peter, Tim and Tom seem to be making it an issue. This Veteran thinks you are scum of the earth george; convince me otherwise by stepping to the mike and taking questions from legitimate journalists (if there are any left).

12. there's so much wrong with the quote -
apart from the outrageous, lying content can you imagine him even *able* to say
"fundamentally, frighteningly"

13. "fighting to win"
Of course the "fighting to win" meme is still active; an implication that we could have won if those damn peaceniks hadn't tied our hands with their concern over a few babies getting napalmed.

17. Not prepared.
In The Houston Chronicle May 8, 1994
Campaign '94: George W. Bush;

"I was not prepared to shoot my eardrum out with a shotgun in
order to get a deferment. Nor was I willing to go to Canada. So I
chose to better myself by learning how to fly airplanes. ''

-- GW Bush, On why he joined the Texas Air National Guard during the
Vietnam War, quote from 1990.

18. are these 2 quotes worthy of sending to candidate's blogs?
another question:
If i were to send these around to the blitzers, russerts, rathers, jennings of the world - isn't there a good resource for emails/addresses other than the websites of individual programs?
I just assume that those form-emails don't really go anywhere.

thnks!

19. How
How does one shoot their ear drum out with a shotgun without damage to important parts? Like brains for instance. The thought must have occurred to "AWOL Bush*".
