Super Bowl CBS Accepts Halliburton "Sympathy & Understanding" Ad
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 01:41 PM by Broadslidin
This was just reported on the Thom Hartmann

IE America radio program:

After Super Bowl CBS rejects MoveOn.org's informative Ad,

the network is accepting an ad from the blatently

Traitorous Halliburton(60 Minutes, January 25)

which depicts Halliburton filled with "Sympathy and Understanding".

Seeing Red, I fired off a two sentence e-mail to CBS
expressing my disgust!

The CBS "feedback" link is at the bottom of the page.

7. Here's my "subdued" reply
So CBS will not accept "political ads" for the not-so-Super Bowl???

But you somehow found it in your corporate hearts to accept an ad from the "poor widdle Halliburton corporation"? I am sure as soon as Karl Rove & Dick Cheney finish writing it, they'll send it right to you..

Shameful...Just Shameful..

The ONLY reason they would be advertising on the Super Bowl would be to try and cover their asses, now that finally some truth is finding its way to the public.. They have been screwing our country's treasury for years..and with the complicity or "wink-wink" approval of that rat-bastard vice president..

His title suits him, actually it should be.. president of vice.. That's the ticket..

No one in my house will be watching .. Thanks for nothing, CBS, Tiffany Network no more !

10. mine
I can't believe I JUST sent them praise.. :eyes:

CBS, I feel you have betrayed not only me, but the American People as a whole...

I only minutes ago sent you a praise-filled feedback regarding your 60 Minutes story on Halliburton's use of foreign subsidiaries to get around laws that prevent them from doing business with nations that the U.S. considers to be terrorist-supporting. I was delighted and pleased to finally see these truths being presented to the masses that NEED to be aware of them.

Now, I am very disappointed. I just heard that CBS plans to air Halliburton ads during the Super Bowl that depict Halliburton with "Sympathy and Understanding".

Is CBS now officially taking money from corporations that CBS itself claims are supporters of terrorism? The implications of this are astounding. Even more so in light of the fact that CBS has refused to show the MoveOn ad that refers to the massive budget deficits, because the ad is "issue-oriented".

I cannot help but wonder just who is calling the shots at CBS. Will this handsomely-paid ad now result in no more stories about Halliburton? Have they just bought your silence and loyalty? Will one of your competitor's networks now do a story on how CBS takes money from corporations that sponsor terrorism? If not, they should. I can assure you that is what I will be telling people.

It's time for CBS to make up its mind which side it will be on.

Sincerely,

14. Here's mine.
I was under the impression that your organization doesn't run "issue ads" during the Super Bowl. CBS recently cited this policy as the reason for turning down the MoveOn.org ad.

You can imagine how shocked I was to learn that you're going to run a PR spot for Halliburton during the Super Bowl.

I'm sure you don't need to be told that this corporation does business with states that sponsor terror, since it was reported on your own "60 Minutes" program just yesterday. They're also currently under investigation both here and in Europe for several counts of fraud and bribery.

I assume they've got plenty of taxpayer dollars to throw around these days, what with the "war on terror" and all, but your promotion of Halliburton's war profiteering and stifling of open political dialogue is troubling.

It seems that issue ads are acceptable during the Super Bowl after all. So long as the issue being supported is corporate war profiteering.

17. commercial speech is political speech
but political speech is not commercial speech.

halliburton is a business, therefore they get to advertise.

moveon.org should try to sell something, and they might get on. or sponsor a bike racing team a la the USPS.

I informed them that I had 3 TVs in my house and from now on they will never tune in CBS. Tell everyone you know -- we ought to launch a massive campaign around this issue.
