Pro-Life Democrats Keep Fighting Despite Presidential Candidates
Pro-Life Democrats Keep Fighting Despite Presidential Candidates

by Steven Ertelt

January 26, 2004

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life Democrats always seem to be fighting an uphill battle. That all of the Democratic presidential candidates are pro-abortion -- including one, Dennis Kucinich, who flip-flopped on abortion shortly before declaring his candidacy -- only makes matters worse.

But that hasn't stopped Democrats for Life of America from being a pro-life voice in the wilderness and rallying pro-life party faithful to keep up the good fight.

2. Pro-Life Dems Hopefully Aren't One-Issue Voters
Otherwise, they're fucked.

Most have to realize the important thing is getting Bush out of office.

3. That's why I'm here.
It took me a long time to get over "one-issue-itis". Too many people, on both sides of the aisle, still suffer from it.

4. Pro lifer here
I was bitterly disappointed in Kucinich for his flip flop. I will vote for our nominee and am a very staunch Dean supporter.

6. I dunno, but...
From the article -

At the luncheon, Dr. James Zogby, founder and president of the Arab-American Institute, and a pro-life Democrat, addressed the organization. During the speech, Zogby, a member of the DNC's executive committee, admitted publicly for the first time that he is pro-life.

8. Everybody repeat after me -- the GOP IS NOT PRO-LIFE
Once again, the GOP has framed the issue and people have let them get by with it.

The GOP pretends to be anti-abortion. They are NOT pro-life.

The GOP is NOT pro-life if they want to destroy Medicare and leave elderly people without decent healthcare.

The GOP is NOT pro-life if they want to destroy Social Security and leave people without a safety net.

The GOP is NOT pro-life by suggesting medical savings accounts to fix the uninsured healthcare problem.

The GOP is NOT pro-life by leading us into a pre-emptive war wherhundreds of soldiers and Iraqis have been killed and many more injured.

The GOP is NOT pro-life by cutting veterans' benefits.

I could go on. Don't fall into their trap and let them get by with framing the issue. They are NOT PRO-LIFE.

7. No such thing as pro life or pro abortion
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 09:29 PM by veracity
There are people who are pro choice and those who are anti choice. To suggest that pro choice people are against life, or support abortion as a sport of some sort is reducing the issue to emotionally packed rhetoric.

Democrats, largely, support a woman's right to choose. The 'good fight' you describe is against those who would keep American women free from governmental intrusion into their reproductive organs. There are two sides to every issue, but let's call it what it is. No Democratic Party platform will ever limit a woman's right to choose. Period. End of discussion. Fight the fight elsewhere, you'll lose within the party.

9. forty-three percent of Democrats identify themselves as pro-life
This issue is quickly beoming a minority issue and I predict roe v wade will be overturned within 5 to 10 years.

10. I am Pro-Life
Call me anti-choice or whatever bullsh* you may like. I don't think Roe v. Wade will be overturned, however. There are too many legitimate reasons that a person might get an abortion. Personally, I like:

Edwards: was against D/X abortions
Kerry: against the Death Penalty
Dean: was against the war in Iraq
Clark: holds "legal, safe, and rare" position

Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 10:30 PM by flaminbats
I thought all democrats were PRO-LIFE and the re pukes were proudly PRO-DEATH. Democrats were against the vengeful war in Iraq, angry at shrub for American deaths on 9/11, and supportive of universal health care.

And besides, what does Roe vs. Wade have to do with saving billions of impoverished human beings all over this planet? Now abolishing the death penalty could be considered "PROLIFE"! :wtf:

12. Why would Dems fight against human rights?
This is not a democratic position. Democrats want to protect human rights, not deny them. Democrats believe women as well as men should have the human right of bodily integrity. The oxymoronic "pro-life" position is anti-democratic. I believe the Republicans are the party pandering to that disgusting point of view.

14. what's wrong with abortions
In all honesty, with political-correctedness asside, a fetus is a parasite, and has about as much conciousness as the bugs the term is more oftenly used for, and a person should be allowed to have a parasite removed from them should they wish so. As a man, I feel that I have no right whatsoever to tell a woman she must have something come out of her body, and put her life on hold for a good part of a year, if she does not wish to do so.

17. I agree...
Most abortions where the mother simply doesn't want the baby anymore are performed in the first trimester or early in the second trimester where the fetus is in my opinion nothing resembling a human being. Otherwise they are performed for the mother's health. And I don't feel that I have the right as a man to tell a woman what she can and can't do with their body. Hell I don't feel that I have a right as a man to tell another man what he can and cant do with his body.
