Mark Morford on Dennis Miller |
|
What In The Goddamn Hell Happened To Dennis Miller Dennis Miller has usually been happy to spray his acerbic wit across the political spectrum, but things will be different on his new CNBC talk show. BushCo is in a mock-free zone. "I like him," Miller explained. "I'm going to give him a pass. I take care of my friends." Miller is a familiar figure from his years on "SNL," HBO and "Monday Night Football," but he will be in a different role on his daily show -- that of a total suckwad right-wing prickmonkey who's just a sad and miserable and crusty shade of his former self. This is the Miller who has appeared at fund-raisers for Bush, ridden with the president on Air Force One, sat in the gallery at last week's State of the Union speech and was even talked about as a Republican senatorial candidate in California. This is the Miller everyone used to think of as cool and articulate and hilariously hyperintelligent and able to dissect relatively complicated issues with deliriously inspiring rants that were able to sub-reference Ni etzsche and Bela Lugosi and chaos theory usually all in one sentence. What a pathetic and moribund loss. What a sad blow to articulate thinking. What bilious and dank forces of right-wing fearmongering and neurosis and tax-break bullshit must've attached themselves like rabid leeches to Miller's seething soul to suck him so far over to the Dark Side. Dennis Miller, the new RushHannityStern of the Right. How sad. As if you needed another reason to ignore CNBC.

2. Miller knows that this is "it" |
|
He sucked on MNF,so now he auditions for CNBC. Sure,he'll sell his comedic sole and pimp for Repigs for a fat check. Miller knows he's about done as a comic so he's taking what he can get. If it wasn't this gig what the hell would he do?

|
What, actually, has Dennis NOT sucked at, since he left SNL? Anything?

5. He's mentioned his faith a few times on his previous show. |
|
Is this newfound for him and is this what has made a difference? If that's it, I don't understand it. I would think anyone who has faith would be the opposite. I would think they would be opposed to an aggressive war, sympathetic to the poor and needy, inclusive of rights for all people in these United States, etc. Is it me or does it seem like religion lately = self-righteousness?

6. For alll too many people.. |
|
.. being religious is their "free pass" to be jackasses. After all, some variants of Christianity basically say that if you are "saved" you are "saved" no matter what you do.
One of the many reasons I completely eschew religion.

10. Laura Ingraham just became a Catholic |

And she's still the same bitch she always was. It seems like they just don't get what Jesus was about.

it was kind of sad to tell you the truth. After sucking up to Schwarzenegger for thirty minutes, he brings out his Varsity panel, with David Frum, Naomi Wolf, and David Horowitz? Two conservatives, and one centrist. Uh, huh.
Hey, I'll be honest, it's not like a didn't agree with a lot that was said (on certain War on Terror/Iraq issues). The thing is, he tries so hard to appear legitimate and mainstream, but he's not. He's a right-wing mouthpiece, who backs Bush, all that. Hey, at least he's honest about it...sort of.
P.S. His lame attempts at humor are painful.

9. Miller lost his role as a satarist |
|
Now he is just a right-wing shill who whores himself out to the administration and makes jokes at the rest of America's expense. He is not a comedian, and he is certainly not a satarist. Someone who sits with those in power and ridcules anyone who comes along with an opposing viewpoint is called a court jester. And when they stop being funny, they are cast aside by the powerful. When that happens, Miller can go fuck himself, because I don't want to hear his shit anymore. He is a fucking sellout.
