Dennis Miller = P.O.S.
Couldn't resist -- I tuned in Dennis Miller's new show tonight. He continues his streak of hosting shows on topics he has no expertise in. First he was the sportscaster who had never been to a football game. Now he's the political pundit who's counter-arguments are, "We have to go to a commercial," and, "I'm sorry, but we're almost out of time." He was only slightly more inept than Chevy Chase and, if NBC has any qualms about losing audience, won't last quite as long.

First up was a cable access-style public affairs segment where he interviewed Schwarzenegger about a bond referendum. The set just needed a potted fern, wicker furniture and the temperature in the corner of the screen to make it complete. Next, Miller explains he didn't want a studio audience, then launches into a monologue where the crew fills in the laugh spots, occassionally missing cues as Miller stared blankly into the camera during uncomfortable silences. Finally there was a political panel discussion where, when he got called on an opinion and was asked if he read the paper today he said, "No," then cut to commercial.

I didn't mean to get off on a rant, but that was one weak debut!

1. That show is gonna tank...

But somehow that doesn't stop the "liberal" media from producing them!

2. It'll get even funnier

as they attempt to fix it. Let's see if he lasts as long as Jesse Ventura.

The Freeps had a live thread. They were all hepped up, desperately trying to enjoy the show, but at the end, they were complaining of boredom and falling asleep.

3. Did you see the look on the lady's face
When he said he hadn't read the newspaper? Not sure who his token liberal was on his panel, but after his statement about not reading the newspaper she had a real :wtf: type expression. Like she was thinking, is this looser for real?

4. oh boy, another neocon cipher, just what we need
if he's as clueless as that, he can be expected to run for that Senate seat he was thinking about. Repubes like their politicians as empty and clueless as possible!

5. you forgot the chimp
I felt the need to tune in after slamming it so much.
Good assessment, but you forgot to add that the producers knew that they had such a stinker on their hands that they even threw in a chimp for - I don't know, laughs I guess.
I fully expected him to start fellating Schwarzenegger, although that would have crossed the line into actually being entertaining.
He actually made Fox shows look good in comparison.

6. Yeah, I missed the chimp
I heard that part in another room. Isn't it something about the chimp will wear a different color of T-shirt for whatever terror alert level we're at?

Back in `85 Dennis Miller was the ONLY funny part of Saturday Night Live. I cocked my head at his rhetoric on other talk shows recently, and this totally floored me. It's also amazing that he did well with the Weekend Update back in the old days, but that news monologue stunk. Showed Lieberman when he was talking about Edwards, too. Guess they figure one Dem looks the same as the next.

The up side: the GOP has obviously bottomed out the talent pool for their comedic shills.

10. I could resist (tuning it)
But now I'm sorry I did! Nothing like blatant failure on the part of someone like Dennis Miller to perk up my day. I loved your line about the interview with the Groper--potted, plant, temp in the corner, LOL.

And even the freeps were bored. Damn damn damn, I hate missing something like this--almost as much as missing a bush speech when he effs up more than normal.

Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum.

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

3. The subject line of a discussion thread may not include profanity or swear words, even if words or letters are replaced by asterisks, dashes, or abbreviations.

4. The subject line and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation.

5. If you post an article or other published content which is from a conservative source or which expresses a traditionally conservative viewpoint, you must state your opinion about the piece and/or the issues it raises.

6. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

7. Discussion topics that mention any or all of the Democratic presidential primary candidates are not permitted in the General Discussion forum, and instead must be posted in the General Discussion: 2004 Primary forum.
