Right now, bar none, I'd say Eleanor Holmes Norton. Sharp, sharp lady, and is relentless on behalf of her constituents and human rights.

6. Oooooooooooooooh... she's a good one.
Should have thought of her. She is absolutely awesome. I don't think there is a bad bone in her body. She always seemed to good to be involved in dirty politics. WHat a stand up lady.

31. Ah, thanks for the cheers for Pat!
I can't tell you how great it was to be able to work on her campaigns, and to be able to go to the polls and HAPPILY vote FOR someone, rather than just against another.

There'll never be another Pat Schroeder... so inspiring, so funny, and sooo together!

Kanary, with so many fond memories.....

39. Has improved
Still don't much like her, probably still pissed about her running in New York. Talks a lot of Fluff and buzzword-of-the-month.

A year ago her record was aweful - in terms of writing legislation. She had been co-signing about everything Schumer did and introduced various useless resolutions.

I looked recently and was impressed.

14. I agree. She is great.
She is in a tie for me, with Pelosi.

Do any of you contribute to Emily's List? Emily's list was started, because some of the good women candidates did not have enough money to sustain a campaign. If you do not know Emiy's list, please look into it. They list all the great women politicians and contenders. Plus, they are pro-choice.

I am not rich, but I give money to support these candidates.

12. Hillary Clinton
Based on what I know of Machiavelli (plenty) and game theory (enough) she is the only female politician who knows how to be one. She has paid dearly for her success and deserves even more success. I don't believe she'll ever be president. But she should be.

16. There's Something About Mary
The most logical person to put on the Democratic ticket with most of those running is Mary. If there is one state in the south we can pick up, it is Louisiana. They elected a democratic Governor and Senator against what the national trend in the last two electoral cycles. Her Brother is the Lt Gov for the state also and the family is a true force in state politics. I think we can win this state with her on the ticket.

24. Cynthia McKinney. Here's why
(though this is a toughie cause there are several I greatly admire). But Cynthia was my representative for years. I followed her voting record in the AJC and every vote she made was exactly how I would have voted. Plus, I just liked the idea of knowing she was in Congress. Riding the elevators with bigots who just could barely contain their anger at having to be polite and professional with an elected woman. An elected black woman. An elected black woman who is tough. And mouthy. And much, much taller than they are. Cynthia raises blood pressure even higher than Hillary. And that's just one of the reasons I love her.

especially after I read her book. I also adore Boxer - being a Californian, she has represented our state in a way in which I have the upmost respect. I wish I could say the same for Feinstein (Republican Light - she's pissed me off many times).

32. I want to mention someone who hasn't been mentioned...
Joycelyn Elders, the Surgeon General under Clinton who was busted for suggesting that teenagers should be taught masterbation as an alternative to premarital sex. I supported Clinton but he made a mistake in getting rid of her. She lost her job because she made too much sense. I was fortunate enough to get to hear her speak when I was in college and I thought she was brilliant. She really inspired me. I would vote for her in a second. Too bad that we will never see a black woman president in my lifetime.

But I like all of the choices mentioned in this thread.

There are a couple of posters who dislike Senator Clinton and I wonder if they would tell us if they actually live in New York.
