Georgia considers banning 'evolution'
ATLANTA, Georgia (AP) -- The state's school superintendent has proposed striking the word evolution from Georgia's science curriculum and replacing it with the phrase "biological changes over time.

The change is included in more than 800 pages of draft revisions to Georgia's curriculum that have been posted by the Department of Education on its Web site. The middle and high school standards are expected to be voted on by the state Board of Education in May, after public feedback."

More here.http://www.cnn.com/2004/EDUCATION/01/30/striking.evolution.ap/index.html

This is utterly pathetic.

3. Gosh, and they really need it! Why ban it! Don't they want to
improve and develop?

Or are they happy being atavistic throwbacks?

12. I think we jump on the South too much
But when I see a headline like this one, it's too much to ask for. Honestly, did they ever embrace it?

8. My child attends a public school in Georgia
If the fundies don't like what is being taught in the public schools, then they should home school their kids or send them to a private school. None of this voucher crap either!

9. I have 2 grandchildren that attend public school in Cherokee County.
And somehow I am going to have to deprogram them after the school programs them that evolution is just a theory.

10. I have 2 grandchildren in school in Cobb County
and I feel the same way. Their parents are upset, also. This whole thing started in Cobb County. The good news is that Kathy Cox is being vilified in the AJC poll about this decision of hers. I think recall proceedings should be started immediately. She is a right wing idiot.

11. A nice little update by Former President Jimmy Carter
"Carter slams Georgia's 'evolution' proposal

ATLANTA, Georgia (CNN) -- Former President Jimmy Carter said Friday he was embarrassed by the Georgia Department of Education proposal to eliminate the word "evolution" from the state's curriculum.

"As a Christian, a trained engineer and scientist, and a professor at Emory University, I am embarrassed by Superintendent Kathy Cox's attempt to censor and distort the education of Georgia's students," Carter said in a written statement."

This just proves how the religious RW fundies want to change society to make it more faith-based. These bastards need a knock (or several) on the head to come to their senses. :eyes: :grr:
