Anybody see Pat Robertson on Hardball?
He represents what is wrong with the southern baptist and other right-wing fundies. (and this comes from someone who was born and raised southern baptist)

He made the comment that GW had an "abundance of blessings from heaven." Excuse my while I :puke: These guys are so caught up in promoting their "cause," that they miss the true message.

While Pat comes across as mild mannered and gentle, he disturbs me with his blantent biased worshipping of Bush.

1. Did you hear him say that he always had reservations about Iraq?
That's not the way I remember it, Pat.

5. I heard that
what was that all about? He said he "prayed about it..." Well, so did I and the God I worship gives man free will--free will to screw up and that's what Bush did. This was not something that was answered by a prayer.

7. And did you hear him talk
about Janet Jackson's skimpy outfit when they got to that subject? Um, she was wearing long pants, long sleeves and a long jacket, and that's skimpy? Does Pat Robertson want us all to wear burquas?

4. I guess Jesus endorses backing murderous african dictators, huh Pat?
I guess you have an abundance of blessing from corrupt African goldmines huh Pat. Jesus welcomes the death of a hundred thousand people as long as they're black, huh Pat? and as long as their killer is a Christian? Screw Pat Robertson.

8. Christian Broadcast Network
Edited on Mon Feb-02-04 11:48 PM by DenverDem
was built through outrageous tax fraud in the 70's & 80's using the television stations that they owned (I worked for many years at the one in Dallas) that made tens of millions each, yearly, that were supposedly "non profit". Pat build the Family Channel with "non profit" money, turned it for profit, sold it for a huge profit. He built CBN University, now known as Regent University, with non profit money from the broadcast outlets, as well, and siphoned off millions to him and his son's personal accounts.
Not to mention the gold mining, diamond mining and oil drilling deals done with tyrannical African dictators. The 700 Club's "relief organization""Operation Blessing" is a front for all kinds of black ops. Their planes fly out of the airport that the 9/11 hijackers allegedly trained at, and are used by CIA and other power elite intelligence ops to ferry weapons to whatever guerilla group they are supporting in Africa, while supposedly being used to fly in food and medicine to these hot spots. The OB planes also return with diamonds and gold from the African operations. All the while, Pat uses Operation Blessing as PR leverage to continue fleecing the willfully ignorant fundamentalist ideologues that send their checks in every month, and this has been going on for over thirty years.
"Stealing in the name of the Lord" carries a heavy karmic penalty and Pat will be in the deepest depths of hell eternally for his ongoing crimes.

16. I know about it from working for Pat for about ten years
Edited on Tue Feb-03-04 12:43 AM by DenverDem
as a severely underpaid tv producer at one of his broadcast stations. I'm sure an Alta Vista search would turn up lots of links. Try "operation blessing guns" and see what turns up.

This whole three part series on the fundamentalist evangelism/right wing politricks scam is quite informative.

17. Here's a link
Another one of Robertson's more notorious business deals is the recently exposed diamond mine case. In this ingenious venture, Robertson saw an opportunity in the country formerly named Zaire (now the Congo) for diamond mines. The former Zaire is a country rich in natural resources, including diamonds, but these resources were thus far being plundered by its (former) dictator, the brutal Mobuto Sese Seko. Mobuto (who recently died of cancer) was one of the world's richest men, while his people lived in grinding poverty. It was often noted that he could have cured all of his country's ills by writing a personal check. Mobuto had been trying to come to the US to try to improve relations, but the State Department refused to grant him a visa, due to his lengthy human rights violations (see the Pat's Dictator Friends page for more info). In all of this, the clever Pat Robertson saw an opportunity. The two became close associates, and Mobuto allowed Pat to open diamond mines in Zaire, under the name of the African Development Company, while Pat tried to persuade the State Department to allow Mobuto entry into the US. Ultimately, it was found out that Pat had been using CBN money and equipment to aid his diamond mining operation in Zaire (see the News page for more details). A good deal for Pat, seeing as he employed people in Zaire for ridiculously low wages, and managed to use CBN's infrastructure to cut costs even more.

Ultimately, one is struck by the constant use of non-profit, donor money used to fund Pat's schemes, and the total lack of ethics that this man has. Anyone thinking about sending money to CBN to "promote the gospel" should definitely take note; chances are that your money will end up being used to increase the fortune of one Marion "Pat" Robertson instead. For even more information on Pat's business practices, I encourage you to check out Rob Boston's book entitled "The Most Dangerous Man in America? Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition," from which some of my information comes.

19. I learned about this his foul machinations a while ago...he was also
involved with some shady goings on in central America.

Got some really creepy info off of:

http://www.endtimesnetwork.com
http://www.isrp.org
Ya have to look into some of the archives there to find some of the Robertson stuff. It's creepy, especially for true and or fundie Christians, but is informational for all people interested in political intrigue around the world at the hands of the USA and others.

while he was still sane, referred to Pat as a "Conservative Gargoyle". It's tough to improve on that characterization.
