7. gay christian marriage
Not sure where i saw it, but it seemed pretty reasonable - that the christian church of Europe actually performed gay marriages for several hundred years after their founding... and, you'd think they'd know better at that time, as they were closer to the actual word of mouth of Jesus (if you believe the timeline, etc)

5. This Should Not Matter...
A majority of the people also opposed public school integration and bussing. That doesn't make it right. That didn't prevent "activist judges" (as the right now calls them) from interpreting the constitution in favor of fair and EQUAL treatment and EQUAL protection.

What difference should it make what bigots think?

6. I support civil unions--
with all the rights and privelages of marriage. But I would prefer to reserve the legal term "marriage" for man/woman relationships, merely as a goodwill gesture to those that have different values than I.

9. There are many churches that perform gay marriages
that are not backed up by the state as valid..its just a word..and each church can decide for themselves whether they want to perform a marriage for a hetero or a gay couple..
on the other hand, the state should not allow any 2 people to be treated as second class citizens if they do "marry" in a church and are not allowed the same benefits of a civil union..
For many gay couples who are religious (or not religious), they do consider the word marriage as a sacred word to define their relationship.
Heterosexuals should not own what the word marriage means. imo

8. I would be interested in seeing a DU poll regarding this
I know we have more then a few people who think GLBT equal rights are a nuisance and not worth fighting for by the Democratic Nominee.

I will not stop my fight for equal rights for ALL--even if it may lead me to violence against my oppressors.
