Bob Dole on Dailey regarding AWOL |
|
Bob Dole actually tried to insinuate that people were attacking the President because he was IN the National Guard. He implied that it was insulting to all the people serving in the national guard.
Jon Stewarts response: "Actually, there attacking him for NOT being in the National Guard. At least for being missing."

2. Thank God for John Stewart |
|
I heard some other republican say that. Apparently that's the talking point -- make it look like the Dem's are slamming the guard. Stewart handled it brilliantly. That should be the way that anybody who's fed this line of bullshit handles it.

3. Well when Jon called him on it |
|
he joked that maybe Bush was on a picnic. I'm sorry I know he is a republican but I think Dole is funny as hell. He even made a few half hearted cracks at Shrubs expense.

His sense of humor never came out when he was running for president.
What would life be like with Dole as president instead of bush?

4. Dole explained away the year long absence |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-04-04 11:40 PM by DenverDem
by saying that Bushler* was on a picnic one weekend, but he made the absence up later.
More 'puke prevarication. They are all pathological liars.
He sure left in a hurry, as if he were pissed JS called him out on the swerve meme that people are dissing Top Punk for being in the National Guard. If he had actually fulfilled his National Guard obligation this would be a non issue.

on the bright side, at least now we'll now which papers get their talking points straight from the GOP, because no writer could come up with that line of BS independently.

11. Yeah, it's strange, really. |
|
Sometimes their editorials are very anti-Bush, and sometimes they're like this one. I really think they have a team of four or so, and they take turns.
This is a very Democratic (although not very liberal) area because of all the steel mills and other union plants. So they won't sell any papers being non-union, and therefore they are usually pretty good to Dems. Ted Strickland (D) represents most of this area, with Bob Ney (R) represents some other parts in the U.S. House. So the editorial page would like to be Republican, but it seems like they know better. Sometimes, though, the Republican they have working on the Editorial Page gets his turn, I guess. This is all speculation on my part, of course.

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY! Misty 23, Misty 23, Misty 23! FLAMEOUT! FLAMEOUT! FLAMEOUT!
Crazy Cat 912, do you see Misty flight? Flight of four F-100 fast-facs below you and to the left?
I've got three, Portcall. There is a cloud layer below ... tops about seven thousand. Looks like Misty 23 went into the clouds.
Misty 21 on guard, Misty 23 ... Misty 23!
Misty 21, this is Crazy Cat 912, looks like 23 is down. We have DF capability. We will set up for SAR.
Misty 21 this is Hillsboro on guard............ Misty 23? Misty 23? Misty 23?
This happened to me in November, 1970. I was Crazy Cat 912. The Misty flight were four F-100 Fast-Facs from Phan Rang. The Mistys were one of the few, if not the only, Air Guard units in Vietnam. They flew with flasks of vodka in their survival vests (Stars & Stripes, 1971) and fearlessly marked the big anti-aircraft guns on the Ho Chi Mihn trail. Guys with guts. Most over 40. Some lawyers, some bankers, some doctors. I loved the Misties. We never found Misty 23. RIP 23. Bless the guard and their damn F-100s.

And they had F-100's. Assigned to Flight Safety Office. To fly F-100's in combat then, you'd have to be verrry brave. Once saw a flight of four taxi out for takeoff, three aborted on the runway....
