$50,000 reward for proving Bush's Guard service?
I know most of you recall the $3,500 reward offered by a group of Vietnam Veterans to anyone who could prove Bush fullfilled his national Guard duty. No one stepped forward to claim it. I am wondering, with groups like moveon.org out there, couldn't the ante be upped so to speak? Couldn't some nice philanthropist out there offer a $50,000 reward to anyone who document and prove Bush fulffilled his duties? This might grab some people's attention. It would be hard to explain why nobody would want $50,000 if they could prove Bush served. This could get interesting.

Something for the admins to consider.

4. the beauty is...
We could each pony up $100 and have a reward in the millions - and, we'd never have to pay.

I'm sure if something similar had gone on in Clinton's past, Fox News would be offering the reward and their nightly news at 6:00 would kick off (and, it is now Day X since we asked anybody to step forward who observed Clinton in the Guards...)

5. GREAT!!!! A DU challenge!
Seeing as how so many Conservatives voices out there such as Limbaugh and Boortz just can't stand DU and have actually mentioned this site on their shows, wouldn't it be something if DU could orchestrate this!? Gain National attention. Grassroots! If a bunch of normal Joe's ponied up their own cash to challenge anyoen to step forward!

3. Great idea
This place is such a great idea developer ... I still think the party chairman got some of his arguments against B**h for his interview on Sunday directly off of DU.

Keep these ideas coming. I just love that this story is FINALLY getting some air time.

And all we need is for 1,000 people to donate $50 to the cause. Or 2500 people to give just $20. DU has almost 40,000 registered users, right?

10. If You Build It...Count Me For $500
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 10:54 AM by IMRadioactive
This is excellent! Hopefully someone with the organizational skills can take this thing and run...I know a lot of others who would pony up to get the truth out...Finally! Hell, I'll go even higher if there's a challenge here.

Whomever or however this story developed legs, it's too good to let drop...we've got this regime squirming (finally) and this issue not only goes to the question of this imposter's qualifications to be Commander In Chief (as opposed to Kommandant In Thief), but to the overall credibility of this regime. One lie opens the door and credibility to all the others we know this regime has hid behind for the past 3 years.

Some are ready to throw a party here, thinking the momentum is swinging our way. This is just a budge...but the first I've felt in a positive direction since '92. We've got a lot of ground to recover...the GOOP lie machine has dominated the stage long enough. It's going to be one mind at a time...moving the ball slowly...and this is a great way to do just that.

As people like Martin Heidt and so many others have proven, it's not on us to prove that bunnypants fulfilled his military obligation (that we have to remain on that focus as well), but there's so many ways he can prove his service record and quickly put this question to rest. Obviously, the tap-dancing this regime did in 2000 and is doing once again shows there's some question in this boy's past and his ability to be honest with the people he's under oath to serve...and that means not just the corporates or the Christian Coalition, but ALL Americans...especially those of us who pay taxes that pay for his wars and vast corporate welfare programs.

The media finally smells fire under the regime and sees it means viewers...but they're also quick to move along if the story doesn't grow. This is a great way to keep that pressure on and allow the millions of us (and the many on DU in particular) to put it to this regime in a way they can't easily shut down...there are too many of us.

Please PM me with any thoughts or organization. I'm no George Soros, but I know there are others here who can match my amount or better it. Let's Roll!!!

Let's send this tidbit to Tim Russert so that he can ask Bush about it.
Yeah....right.
Seriously, can we get it together in time for Sunday a.m.? Can we send a press release to Rusert saying that a group from Democratic Underground is pledging to pay $50,000 to the person who can PROVE you fulfilled your duty?

18. That's another possibility
We just need to keep circulating this idea around. I myself do not have web design experience. I wonder though what somebody in a position of power here at DU thinks of making this an official effort by DU? Or whether it would be better served to get someone in the community to dedicate a seperate web site to the cause.

Real simple website (I say simple, of course I don't know html from a hole in the ground), call it bushreward.com or something, have a PayPal or similar button you could click to pledge to the reward fund, and a running total of the size of the reward offered!

14. Moveon should do a new commercial challenge and offer a reward
Look at the airplay and mention the other one got..

The reward should be substantial and it should appeal to the patriotism angle..

"Should a deserter be the one sending YOUR child to die in a war HE started?"

Says he's not a deserter?? PROVE it !!

17. paypal is simple to join
A cinch.

But what you do need is a way of insuring the donors that the money will be protected and administered with integrity.

Which means this probably needs to be associated with a known entity. Democrats.com would probably sponsor it. Maybe Burkett would lend his name to it.

Or maybe you should just contribute to the already existing reward and publicize it.

We've got plenty of Integrity - at least I hope so, we've been battling these creatures with some success for a long time..

Plus we had a guy put up 100k to show our ARMY OF ONE commercial 3000 times all over New Hampshire during the Primaries..

I'll talk to him and maybe get the ball rolling at our site if you people think we should be the ones to jump on this..

21. Sounds great! Go for it!
Definetly bring it up and see if you can get the ball rolling. It is just a matter of who has the means to do it. As far as credibility, any "progressive" or "Liberal" group these days gets smeared by the right as a "far left fringe group". Just look at how moveon is regarded. Obviously whoever starts this campaign is going to face the same smears but people will see through it and still take interest in what the message is.

22. Proving a negative isn't so hard....
Edited on Thu Feb-05-04 04:28 PM by RedSox02
....when money is involved. Besides, if I accuse you of not attending the last two months of high school, generally you should be able to provide documentation to assert otherwise. That should be on record. There should be some military record of where Bush was. On top of that, the cat is already out of the bag as far as the fact that Bush did miss some physicals. So we know he skipped out on at least some obligations.

However, your idea about where Bush might have been instead isn't such a bad one.

25. Problem with documents you don't have is
that it doesn't mean, to use your example, that you weren't in high school only that there is no record of it. Lack of a record does not "prove" you weren't in the high school for the last two months.

37. Justification for Michael
I took this from the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

885. ART. 85. DESERTION
(a) Any member of the armed forces who--
(1) without authority goes or remains absent from his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to remain away therefrom permanently;
(2) quits his unit, organization, or place of duty with intent to avoid hazardous duty or to shirk important service; or
(3) without being regularly separated from one of the armed forces enlists or accepts an appointment in the same or another on of the armed forces without fully disclosing the fact that he has not been regularly separated, or enters any foreign armed service except when authorized by the United States; is guilty of desertion.
(b) Any commissioned officer of the armed forces who, after tender of his resignation and before notice of its acceptance, quits his post or proper duties without leave and with intent to remain away therefrom permanently is guilty of desertion.
(c) Any person found guilty of desertion or attempt to desert shall be punished, if the offense is committed in time of war, by death or such other punishment as a court-martial may direct, but if the desertion or attempt to desert occurs at any other time, by such punishment, other than death, as a court-martial may direct.

Now if it were you or me who pulled what the chimp did, we'd have been subject to section (3); paragraph (c)

Michael Moore was/is right, * is a deserter.

36. Some Thoughts...
Thanks for the PMs and updates on this great idea...and TBTM would be a great place to focus this challenge on since there appears to be "eyes" inside the beltway that are watching it and could pick up on this challenge and really help it take off.

As far as T & C or Terms and Conditions...I think some of the vets here who are familiar with the alphabets of the military can assist...but I would be content for bunnypants or someone in the military to produce the manchild's paystubs for 1972 and 1973...documentation that he served ANY time prior to his discharge. Seems he can't even do that.

Personally, I would donate the money raised to the Democratic Congressional campaign committee to help take contol of the House...people who could desperately use the money and our safeguards against another right wing putsch.

Again, keep me informed if this thing takes legs...I've got the checkbook and pen at the ready...and looking for a challenger.
