One-time chair of L.A. Republicans turns Moon groupie

Check this guy out. The sometime mayor of Downey, a working-class city near Los Angeles featured in "Jackie Brown," is spending a heck of a lot of his spare time on Moon Patrol, if you know what I'm saying. The Moonies, in case you're new to this blog, are a powerful Washington, D.C. group with ties to North Korea and swindling of the religious variety; their credo revolves around crushing individualism and democracy, and replacing them with something called "Godism" in which the sexually impure would be burned at the stake. (Don't look at me like that, I didn't make it up.)

Keith McCarthy, who recently has been mayor of Downey, and chairman of the L.A. County Republican Party, lives for this stuff.

He was at Sun M. Moon's Jan. 31 Family Federation meeting, a stop in the group's "tear down the cross"-themed tour.
He's listed as "MC" of a 1994 Moonie event featuring Moon's son Hyo Jin Nim. The abusive husband of tell-all author Nansook Hong, Hyo Jin Nim took the occasion to praise his ex-con father as the "true parent of humanity."
He spoke at a 2001 Moonie revival in South Carolina.
...and a 2003 Moonie prayer breakfast.
Incredible.
