"If some Wash pols had their way, Saddam would still be in power" (Bush)
And I might add, over 500 US soldiers would be home with their families and thousands of murdered and brutalized Iraqis would be with theirs.
9/11 did not give us an excuse to become evil empire that we have become.

1. And if many Americans had their way
Reagan and G.H.W. bush would never have had the chance to support their buddy Saddam for political convenience.

:grr:

7. No shit. Saddam was in power because of the GOP
mainly Reagan and GHW Bush.

Since Reagan had his way, Saddam was in power.

"We know Saddam Hussein had the intent to arm his regime with weapons of mass destruction because he hid all those activities from the world until the last day of his regime."

"Knowing what I knew then and knowing what I know today, America did the right thing in Iraq."

Saddam "had the capability to produce weapons of mass destruction," including scientists, technology and infrastructure, he said.

5. Saddam Was Writing Poems
I love how they say Saddam let the infrastructure in Iraq deteriorate (like the sanctions had nothing to do with this problem)

This country had a hard time getting the basics into it's borders but was somehow able to obtain all the evil shit needed to be an imminent threat to the US and the world.

Fucking liars and the idiots who believed them.

16. He's a disgusting liar
Saddam had "intent" now and hid that "activity" Jaysus--what an asshole. How can any intelligent person not admit this guy is a loser from day one. He is absolutely dumb, inarticulate and a liar.

Saddam had the "capability" now

Jayseus, someone call him on it bluntly and cruelly. His lies have caused the deaths of thousands. And here he is continuing to lie--in the form of trying to change what he said was the reason he would attack Iraq pre-emptively.

Someone step up to the plate and clobber this liar--reveal the truth to all AMericans about their lying, murdering president and make them ashamed enough of the murderer to call for his removal from the office--now--not after the next election.

8. because bush was president
my favorite is the mass graves argument. But most of those graves were filled during th Iran Iraq war, and when bush senior told the Shiites to revolt and then left them hanging in the wind

9. and because some washington pols HAD their way
intel, monetary and military resources were pulled from the work on disrupting the functions of al qeada in order to move troops to the gulf region nearly a year before the iraq war... and alqeada has now regrouped in Afghanistan and is again making threats against the US... and alqeada, not saddam, is tied to the attacks on 9-11.

12. and the $200 billion spent on the war
Could have gone to:
1) pay down the outrageous deficit; or
2) upgraded our antiquated power grid (and created jobs to do the upgrade...)
3) Beefed up our homeland security - ports, power plants, etc
4) fully fund "No Child Left Behind" and then some...

14. well i can think of two that helped keep Saddam in power..
Rumsfeld and Cheney

of course, while it's great that the Iraqi people are now fre of saddam, a few nagging problems remain..
1. in order to 'free" the iraqi people, the US had to kill and mutilate a lot fo Iraqi people. sorrta the equivelent of stopiing domestic violence by spraying the house with a machine gun.
2.Why do I have this hard tiem buying the neo-cons new found love of the Iraqi people? they sure didn't seem all that concerned what Sadam did before he invaded Kuwaite. They sure didn't seem bothered by his ties to terrorism when reagan took Iraq OFF the list of terrorist supporting nations in 1983. Halabja sure didn't bother cosn when it actually happnened or even during the first gulf war. helping the iraqi people was always tossed out more as an after thought to quiet anti-war protesters then as an actual rational for goign to war. it's only gained prominence now becuase the WMDs and AlQueda links have all been shown to be full of hot air.

And if the neo-cosn who wanted this war are insincere about thier concern for the iraqi people, maybe they are just as insincere about wanting to set up a democracy in iraq. After all, would the people of Iraq realy support those sweet heart deals with companie sliek Haliburton if they thought they had a choice?

Please excuse spelling. i is in hurry...;-)

18. GHWB quote on Iraq
"I firmly believed we should not march into Baghdad ...To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant, into a latter-day Arab hero ... assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an unwinnable urban guerrilla war." — George H. W. Bush
