Poll question: Will Russert ask Bush the tough questions? (poll).
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 11:49 AM by faygokid
So Bush goes on "Meet the Press" with Rush Limbaugh's sycophantic (and only) interviewer, Tim Russert. What do you think will happen?

23. I take it that Meet The Press is normally live
I was going to watch it. But if it's going to be taped, maybe I'll tape it myself.

3. My guess
Timm will ask some (apparently) tough questions. Dubya's answers will be either not to the point or non-answers and Russert will move along to the next.

Questions still unresolved:

Will this be taped or live?

Does Dubya get the questions in advance?

Is Rove writing the questions and giving them to Russert?

How much "prep-time" is being used to get dubya ready for this?

6. Good questions. It will be taped on Saturday.
I bet the White House gets to edit, even if it's denied. Russert will be told his place in no uncertain terms ahead of time.

10. It will be "Taped Live" on Saturday.
That means the answers can be changed or, after the answers are recorded, the questions can be changed (Like Leno does in some of his skits).

In any event, Dubya will get soft questions and will get to redo any answers Rove thinks he flubbed.

11. But we REALLY know the answers
to all your questions.

Will this be taped or live?

For security reasons this must be taped. ;-) Security in that if the American people don't see first hand any more clearly what an unattached, uninformed doofus he is we'll feel more secure.

Does Dubya get the questions in advance?

Of course, Rove wrote them.

Is Rove writing the questions and giving them to Russert?

heh heh See above.

How much "prep-time" is being used to get dubya ready for this?

Except for getting dressed and coming out to say "I'd do this war all over agian if Iknew then what I know now back then" he's had all week to memorize his answers. The kept it a two-sylllable limit and that helped.

Rest assured, all has been done to make the pResident look good.

25. I think he is a registered wuss; reminds me of "The Fabulous Sports Babe"
Reminds me of that radio talk show of a few years ago, "The Fabulous Sports Babe." She was awful; beat up every average caller that called in, then turned around and kissed butt, fawning disgustingly over every sports pro guest who talked to her. That's Russert. That's why he was chosen to do this. That's what he does with Limbaugh. That's what he will do with Bush. You think Rove is stupid? Evil yes. Stupid no.

7. What I want to know is , will Russert give the questions in advance ?
Any idiot could probably figure out what should be asked, but will Tim let the handlers know in advance just how tough he will be ?

13. I'm going out on a limb and voting for the #1
Russert could go down in journalism history if he knocks Bush out of the park.

There's always hope...

There's also the thought that Russert knows Bush is going down and it would be better for the GOP to come to their senses now and start looking for a replacement candidate now rather than at the convention.

And no, I have not been smoking pot this morning.

15. Well Tm has a choice
he can try to save Dubya (the likely prospect here, hence the Nerf balls) or he can try to save his reputation.

So if he decides to go for the latter we may be surprised

Also if Dubya comes in with his usual smirk, he is continuing to piss off the people with it, so the more power to him... smirk, anger, anger means further voter mobilization... and no I do not see this as a loose loose, but rather a win win for us.

And just like you, I have not been smoking either

14. I say Russert asks one or two fairly tough ones early on
probably some stuff they've prepped dumbass for all weekend. He'll probably screw them up, anyway, but then Russert will give him the
rest of the time to recover and look "Presidential".

I won't watch it, but that's my take. Russert wants to at least look like journalist, hence the few tough ones. But he'll never ask him, for example, "Isn't it fair to say that you owe the American people an apology for misleading -- intentionally or not -- them about our reasons for invading Iraq?" Hillary is another story, we are a "hard-hitting interviewer" when dealing with her or Dean or anyone he's paid to attack.

16. plus there is NO WAY Rove would allow this - unless it was prescripted
questions. So Russert lobs softballs that bush has already seen and had time to prepare to answer.

17. No tough questions although they will be worded in a spin cycle
manner so that yes or no, God bless America , Saddam is evil, I am good, american values..etc will be the standard answeres.

After all, Tin knows who butters his bread.

it's being taped?

I'm guessing the Presidential Library or maybe even the Oval office to make Dubya appear more presidential.

27. No Follow-Up Questions
i think Russert will ask tough questions ... like,

Russert: Mr. President, we based our war with Iraq on Saddam having WMD's but none has been found ... were we right to go to war?

bush: blah blah blah ... Tim, I want the American people to know that, as President, I have the awesome responsibility of looking people in the eye who have lost loved ones defending our freedoms ... and that's really where it's at ... we went into Iraq to protect this country from an evil, evil man ... and I think anyone who doesn't understand that is deceiving themselves ...

Russert: thank you Mr. President ... now, there's been much talk lately about the budget deficits ... the budget you're sending to the Hill is the largest budget in our nation's history ... won't this budget threaten the economic recovery that's already in progress?

bush: well, Tim, I think most Americans would rather be living in this country with an economy that's on the rebound than anywhere else in the world ... but to be serious for a moment, Tim, we do have some financial difficulties ... but we're confronting them head on and the recovery is well underway ...

Russert: thank you, Mr. President ... I understand your daughters are considering campaigning for you this year ... it must make you very proud to have them out there helping you ...

bush: blah blah blah ...

without follow-up questions, there is never a critique of pre-scripted responses ... bush can say anything, whether it's the least bit responsive or not, and Russert will move on to another topic ... don't expect anything to come of this ... this is nothing but an infomercial ...

28. Yer damned good. Nailed it.
That's exactly what I expect, as well. Russert is a proven commodity. Don't expect him to grow a backbone for this. He won't, and Rove will score points. The sad thing is, if Russert challenged even one of Bush's answers, you would see the flash of intolerance, anger and hatred that is the reality of our "president." Just once,
Tim, just once. But, it won't happen.
