Don't look now but GOP worried about losing Ohio |
|
This from the AP
While Bush's campaign conducts statewide polls rather than regional surveys, several Republicans familiar with the findings said the president faces difficulties in states such as Michigan and Ohio.
If Bush loses Ohio he is finished. Is there any good possibilities of anyone from Ohio to be on the ticket?

1. Diebold didn't get the install |
|
That's why they are worried about Ohio. The CEO of Diebold failed to "deliver the votes of Ohio to the president."

I sure hope so. It is unfortunately still possible (but difficult) for Bush to win without OH if he can take some other states.
They talked about BBV on talk of the nation today, so it may be getting some more media attention.

4. The Democratic Nominee MUST OPPOSE NAFTA/WTO |
|
The Democratic Nominee MUST espouse withdrawal from NAFTA and WTO in order to tap into these disaffected voters. It is the CLEAREST way to differentiate yourself from Bush. Bush cannot POSSIBLY respond.
Bush is FORCED to support Free Trade due to his TRUE support base, Corporate Globalists.

Fair trade is essential, not dumping what we have entirely.
"Bush cannot POSSIBLY respond."
Sure he can, all he has to do is point out all the problems with protectionism. If dumping NAFTA/WTO is not equated with protectionism in fact, it will certainly be in perception. It is a terrible idea, both politically and for policy (more so for policy)...

7. AS far as VP choices from Ohio go |
|
Both Senators and Gov are Repub. Ohio tends to move in cycles, all Dems for a decade, all Repubs for a decade. Marcy Kaptur is a fine Congresswoman, the former Congressman from Dayton, Tony Hall (?), is one of the finest people to have served in the House. The retired Dem Senators, John Glenn and Metzenbaum are too old for consideration.

He's in the "country club" minimum security facility there. They use it for white collar criminals, you know, the ones who can afford good lawyers.

15. Political cycles in Ohio |
|
In Ohio we get a Republican administration in office and they cut taxes and practically bankrupt the state. Next you get a Democrat administration, they raise taxes and get finances in order then they get voted out for raising taxes. The last election Taft claimed everything was great until right after the election. The Republicans got caught in their own trap this time and had to raise taxes (big time), we should be ripe for a Democrat now.

8. Ohio's manufacturing job losses are second only to (I believe) Missouri |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 06:16 PM by hatrack
When Chimpy went and gave his patented job/economy speech in Ohio last fall, it was designed to highlight the "rebounding" economy. Unfortunately for Bush, the factory where he gave his carefully staged photo-op has since gone out of business (the reverse Midas touch in action).
Then, after this year's spavined SOTU, he went to a job training center. This of course, was before we found out that the job training programs he's promoting this year will be cut by $36 million next year. I'm waiting eagerly to see how long the job training center will remain open.
Take Gore's states in 2000, add Ohio, and it's over for ChimpCo.

13. I don't think there are any Dems |

who hold a statewide office in Ohio. I found the Ohio repub website and it looks like every statewide office is held by them. On the Dem site, I couldn't find any. So, no, there won't be a VP from Ohio.

Is there any good possibilities of anyone from Ohio to be on the ticket?
Remember, it's not about electability, it's about who has the best press secretary! :-) Seriously, if said press sec'y should happen to see this, perhaps he can use the info to position DK for the VP slot.
