Dick Cheney: Better for us if he was on or off the GOP ticket |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-07-04 09:09 AM by Norbert
I want justice served with the Valerie Plame outing but should Cheney leave office in disgrace ala Spiro Agnew this year would that be good or bad for our chances of taking the White House from the usurpers.
Good. There is unquestionably documented proof of scandal at Bu$hco. The voting populace may question shrubs skills in choosing the right people for the job. The Democratic nominee will jump on both early and often.
Bad. Cheney is forced out quickly and the voting public with the attention span of a kindergartner will pass this off as old news weeks after this comes to pass. Rush makes a political martyr out of the Dick (a stretch but stranger things have happened, Ollie North is a case in point). Bu$h selects Rudy or Frist as his running mate that can make a stronger case for reselection then Cheney.
I'll go for broke and say it will be good. What do you think?

1. I would agree it would be good but only |
|
if his VP is NOT Guiliani! He'll evoke all kinds of feelings at their convention which might translate into votes.

4. Cheney on the ticket is good for Democrats. |
|
In fact I'll be stunned if Chimp doesn't have him taken off the ticket, due to "health problems." Cheney will be cured then appointed to a position where he can do just as much harm, maybe as Powell's replacement if Chimp gets "elected" in November.
Cheney has way too much luggage, he still gets what the normal American considers a fortune from Halliburton and Halliburton is becoming synonymous with war profiteering.
The Democrats are going to pound him on Plame. Why didn't he demand resignations when he realized he had a traitor on his staff? Because he approved the leak?
The list is long and we all know it, but there is just too much for Chimp to live with since the election looks tight.
Now some of this will depend on when they schedule the terror attack and how much they think "discovery" of OBL's remains will help them.

on who they believe will be the democratic vp ....for example, if it is Edwards, the bush folks are smart enough to figure out than in a nationally televised debate, Cheney would become a huge ball & chain. And they would drop him. I've often wondered if he is even alive; the state of the onion address made me think probably not .... the "thing" behind bush looked like the fake turkey with make-up.

5. Cheyney will be made into a scapegoat, then jettisoned in favor of Rudy. |
|
I believe that's the clear plan. That's how Cheyney presented his strengths in '00: he would push hard to get the right wing agenda adopted, taking the heat on controversial measures. Then he would step aside in '04 after Karl and shrubbie had a chance to evaluate potential '08 candidates and put one on the '04 ticket to perpetuate the dynasty.
What will happen is that, over the next few months, Cheyney will be billed as the bad guy, the cause of faulty intel, the Plame leaker, the environmental catastrophe and energy insider dealings, and on and on. Then he'll announce his health won't allow him to seek a 2nd VP term and he must step down. Bingo. All of the missteps, harshness and extremely partisan measures of the first term are shoved into a paper bag and made to disappear.
Rudy is nominated for VP (September surprise!). It's a clean slate for their campaign. It's a new day! Hallelujah!
That's the plan. We'd better be ready for it.

11. Check out Arianna Huffington's opinion on this topic |
|
I agree with Arianna's position that Cheney's presence on the Republican ticket is a big plus for the Dems. http://www.workingforchange.com/article.cfm?itemid=16385Besides, I read somewhere that Cheney's approval rating is somewhere around 20%.

I've never seen a pic of him yet where I didn't think that. He ALWAYS looks diabolical. And we are dreaming to think he will ever be brought to justice under a Republican congress. He'll be around.
