Who is attacking US forces in Iraq?

This was written nearly a year ago describing what would happen if US became an occupying force. My notes were written at the time.


Below: It must be understood that this could be the biggest factor in the outcome of this war. Our supposed allies now know that Bush has no intention of establishing a democracy in Iraq. This will catalyze opposition from other countries in the region. Kadafi of Libya was cheered for suggesting that other Arab countries would fall like Iraq. It looks like the Arab countries are seeing this as an imperial war.

Iraqi Shi'ites might turn against U.S.-SCIRI

BEIRUT, March 24 (Reuters) - Opposition groups might turn
their guns on the United States if Washington behaved as an
occupying power in Iraq, a Lebanon-based official of Iraq's main
Shi'ite opposition organisation said on Monday.
Mohammed al-Hariri, a representative of the Iran-backed
Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), told
Reuters concern that the United States planned to install a
military government in Iraq after the war was preventing SCIRI
and Kurdish groups from fighting against the government.
"Until now, we consider the war between the United States
and the (Iraqi) regime as a war over interests. This war is not
an honourable one and is not for the sake of democracy," Hariri
said.
"If there is no role for the forces representing the Iraqi
people (SCIRI and Kurdish groups), then it is an act of
occupation, an act of hegemony and it will be confronted
politically and militarily by several sides," he added.
With several thousands fighters deployed in Iran and in
Kurdish-controlled northern Iraq, the Iran-based SCIRI is the
biggest and best armed opposition Iraqi group apart from Kurds
in two northern enclaves......
