Would marching to another war help or hurt shrub. |
|
My father was saying that Bush could start another war in August and then get re-elected. He does not want that but considering how citizens have been supportive of the last two wars, he thinks that they would support a third one. I did disagree.
1. The lies about Iraq have come to the surface.
2. It is a quagmire and people know it.
3. They must realize that it would mean reinstating the draft.
4. I don't think that people would want a third war in three years.

He would be run out of town (Washington) on a rail. If he tried the Iraq trick again it would bring the nation to civil collapse.

5. Marching into another war would end his residency, no question |
|
Not to mention the fact that he couldn't do it without a draft. And Republican patriotism ends when their own asses, and those of their sons and daughters, are put on the line.
I know I speak for all of my Republican friends when I say we are all sick to death of war. If the Chimp were to either bumble into or purposely get us into yet another war, someone's going to take the keys away from him. He may even end up in the Hague, and I'm talking as someone who is generally pessimistic about that kind of thing.

6. It all depends on what triggers |

the war, and what the timing is.
What if some major terrorist attack occurs mid-September, by a country already on the Axis of Evil? Many American lives are lost, and images of this new attack are played over and over again, alongside the images of the Twin Towers.
I like to think all of my fellow DUers would know better than to succumb to such a provocation, but I bet a lot of people even here would want to strike back.
These guys are master manipulators, and don't forget that for one moment. I'm sure they're running focus groups all the time to figure out how people would respond to various scenarios.
Ever been in a focus group? It's quite interesting. I participated in one when Dennis Moore was planning to run for Congress here in the third district of Kansas -- or maybe he was already running, I forget the precise timing. It was fairly easy for me to figure out the point of the focus group session, which was to assess which TV ads and campaign themes would be most effective for him. But how about instead the focus group thinks they're assessing a movie scenario? And I bet these guys would know how to be much more subtle than that.

Even the 40-50% or so who still actually support the Iraq War (I think the poll numbers you typically read are crap, the media has totally failed to see the groundswell of antishrub support prior to the primaries) recognize the enormous cost (the 87 Billion request was a SERIOUS EYE OPENER for many Americans) and the ongoing bloodshed. There will be little if any enthusiasm and much outrage for another go unless we truly were attacked by another country.
If it had been "relatively bloodless" (say, around 100 dead all told), and we were successfully and easily occupying Iraq with 20K troops, then the Volk would be in full lockstep goosestep march with the Reich, WMD lies nonwithstanding. It's sad but that's the way people are. As long as we are winning, and winning easily, no one cares about the ethics or morals of the situation.

that if there is a nother 'terroist attack' the Constitution will be torn into shreds, there will be martial law, and the elections will be cancelled. Shrub will become a dictator. This is what I really fear.
