republicans: "i want my party back"
let's start a meme!

we all love the 'i want my country back' meme, because it has indeed been hijacked by reactionary fanatics who believe in doing whatever illegal, immoral, or nefarious act the can get away with in pursuit of their objectives of power and money for themselves and their cronies.

but the fact of the matter is, i miss having actual republicans to have actual debates with. now they're all ditto-heads, whose admirable loyalty has been used against them, forcing them to parrot back patently false sound-bites in order to remain in support of their party.

i know plenty of republicans who secretly resent this. they support reagan, business, capitalism, jesus, morality, etc., and they wish to high heaven that they had a better front man than shrub. they do not, in truth, support him. they support the party they once knew, and they have no way of supporting the republican party without supporting shrub.

so let's give them a way!

let them all say, 'i want my party back!'

let them be proud of what they actually believe in, let them fight to have leaders who actually represent what they believe in.

let them have a way to support their party without supporting shrub.

let them all say, 'i want my party back'.

1. Some have been saying it for a while now
Check out the American Conservative magazine, they say their party has been hijacked by the neo-cons.

2. yes -- my purpose was to give them a nice catch-phrase
it will spread much more readily with a sound-bite that resonates with the republican rank and file!

3. Conservatives not Neo Cons?
,"they say their party has been hijacked by the neo-cons."

Mostly their own. This is a ply to fool people for local elections and Congress. The lying, liars have many games.

5. Neo-cons are radically different from conservatives!
The stuff Bush has done flies in the face of traditional conservative values. This regime is neither compassionate nor conservative! They're just selfish and greedy!

4. I agree
True conservatives are not that bad, and are not that different either. Bush and his regime are not conservative at all, they just pretend to be. There are more than two ideologies out there and Bush and Co. are in the selfish greedy bastard wing that recently hijacked the Republican party. Many conservatives were either supporting Joe Lieberman, one of the other Democrats, or just sitting out this election.

The Bush Regime is definitely beatable. Anyone who thinks they have this thing locked up is a weak-minded gullible shmuck.

They may have the money, but we have the numbers. Lets kick some ass this November!

8. Why the hell does McCain support Bush?
He is actually campaigning for him! These guys are extremely different in military experience, political views, campaign financing, etc. Many people actually hoped for the good senator to endorse a Democrat.

9. Particularly since Bush essentially called McCain a crazy war vet...
during the 2000 primaries. I remember McCain being furious about this.

It boggles my mind. I really wonder how many of these politicos or their families are threatened by the Bush machine. I can think of absolutely no other reason why someone like Tony Blair would throw his whole career away to support the Chimp.

12. It's the money honey!
That's the only reason why the very liberal Tony Blair did it. If you haven't heard, Tony's changing to a much more lucrative career as board member of Poppy Bush's Carlyle group. $$$$ Listen to Money by Pink Floyd.

I don't know about McCain though. I used to support him when he ran against Bush, but he has an extremely right-wing stance on Israel and he he is constantly battling illegal immigrant rights to health care in Arizona. In all fairness, Arizona has suffered greatly from illegal immigration, but his stance on Israel is inexcusable.

10. I used to respect McCain
and there are still many things to commend him, even though I disagree with him.

but his support of Bush and Bush policies has really stunned me because of the whorishness of this stance, especially considering the way Rove/Bush smeared McCain in the 2000 Republican primaries.

I thought McCain had higher standards than Bush. Apparently I was wrong.

11. He doesn't support Bush* he supports the Republicans
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 12:04 PM by Toots
This will be McCains opportunity. Remember these guys have no scruples or no morals. All they care about is power and McCain will be one heartbeat away from his most coveted position. If it means pretending to like Bush* well so-be-it. McCain has pulled the wool over a lot of Americans eyes with his so-called truthfulness. I discovered the lie to that when he wouldn't distance himself from the Confederate flag issue. He did two one eighties in a row over that one. This will be the ticket. McCain will quit his new position on the Intelligence Commission to run because Cheney is going to have un-expected "health problems" It doesn't matter if McCain leaves or not as he already made a public announcement that the Administration didn't misuse or make-up any intelligence. Matter solved.

7. Aren't you proposing the same thing?
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 11:51 AM by YNGW
You say they parrot the party line ("forcing them to parrot back patently false sound-bites in order to remain in support of their party"), yet you're turning around and telling them what they should parrot (let them all say, 'i want my party back'"). Why would they trade one meme for another?

Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 12:30 PM by YNGW
... Democrats have lost their party to radical fanatics. So, what's your point?

>Because it helps us win!

Why would they purposely do something to help us win?

13. I think that is an excellent strategy...
They are ripe for division. :) We should everything we can to prove to them that the neo-cons that are taking this country down are not "real" Republicans. They only need validated in what they already know.

16. Why do you find their loyalty admirable? They don't question their
leadership and this is the result. Also, remember that what is happening is very much in line with the principles they have advocated. This IS their party, it's just that they are seeing for the first time, the foolishness of their desires because they have actually been played out. This is what they wanted.
