Condi may jilt George (says she's burned out)
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 12:05 PM by kskiska
WASHINGTON - Condoleezza Rice is supposed to be a slam dunk for secretary of state in a second Bush administration. But she may do the unthinkable and just say no.

Friends and colleagues of the national security adviser report that the 49-year-old Rice is exhausted, approaching burnout and aching to return to her idyllic previous life as a tenured professor at Stanford.

"I would be surprised if she stays in government at all," one well-placed source told the Daily News. "From a personal standpoint, she wants her life back."

Several sources say that for months, Rice has been telling disbelieving fellow National Security Council staffers, close friends - even journalists - that it's time for her to go.

"I've never been one to believe you should stay in one place too long," a White House colleague recalls her saying last fall.

"She says things like that all the time," another colleague added.

10. Dick Lugar from Indiana would be a sane, wise choice.
He might be just the thing should Bush get reelected that might stabalize a second Bush term's foreign policy. Frankly, he'd make a good Sec of State in a Kerry cabinet. Real bipartisanship and a calming influence, with Al Gore at the UN, and Clark at CIA, and Zinni at Defense, great foreign policy team.

Now, who does Bush really pick? I imagine any of the PNACER's who avoids getting indicted or too badly tainted this time around. Bolton, maybe, he seems somehow to be not getting too much coverage.

Hopefully, though, this is a moot point and they are all oout ontheir asses come January 05!

Even if she isn't "under oath" she is starting to be questioned and she doesn't like it. She has no real good answers.

Can you imagine how frustrating it must be for her to have to spoon-feed Bush*? Can you imagine how foolish she must feel having to condense EVERY 500 page report and EVERY book into a 2-page double-spaced large-print synopsis for Bush?

Her thin hair and high hairline is a direct result of having to constantly review which countries are on which continent, and which leaders match up with which countries. Not to mention how to PRONOUNCE the leaders' names, the city names, and whether or not there are "blacks in Brazil". Honest!

Just when you think he could not be that boneheaded, he comes out with the blacks in Brazil remark. It's astounding.

Police investigators, who deal with liars all the time in their daily work, say it's easier to tell the truth than lie. The truth is constant. In order to tell a convincing lie, one has to remember what one said and, when asked a new question, keep the new answer consistent with the others.

It must be very hard for Dr. Rice to keep the official lies straight. There are so many of them. They've given up being consistent and are now just trying to give recent history a Stalin era-style rewrite. The new line is that Saddam didn't allow inspectors into Iraq and that the war was justified by the existence of WMD programs or the fact that Saddam could have made weapons. I trust my memory better than a junta member's pronouncements. If I recall correctly:
  • Mr. Powell was telling us exactly what WMDs Saddam had and Mr. Rumsfeld was telling us exactly where they were;
  • Mr. Blair stated that Iraq could launch a biochemical attack within 45 minutes of Saddam ordering it and no one in the US junta contradicted that claim;
  • Mr. Bush called Saddam an "immanent threat", a characterization that can only begin to be consistent if Saddam actually possessed a biochemical or nuclear arsenal that he did not in fact possess;
  • Dr. Blix and his crew were all over Iraq for four months prior to the invasion and found nothing of significance other than some missiles that traveled a few miles too far under ideal conditions; morever, these missiles were promptly destroyed.
