The irony of Barry Goldwater |

back in 1964 the main reason he won the nomination was because LBJ was seen as unbeatable and no prominent Republicans stepped forward. He was seen as a fringe candidate then.
Now he would also never be able to win the GOP nomination. He'd be considered too liberal.

of the far right nuts taking over the republican party from the far more tolerable "Rockefeller republican" establishment. Despite Goldwater becoming far more mellow as death approached, never forget that he was one of the central midwives of the Reagan revolution. I don't.
