A New Vietnam Memorial
Imagine a new Vietnam War Memorial, dedicated to the thousands upon thousands of civilians who lost their homes, villages, loved ones, their limbs and their lives.

Imagine the reaction if it was announced that some very wealthy individual planned on building such a monument. Of course, it wouldn't be some corporate whore like Bill Gates or Paul Allen. More likely Ted Turner.

Right-wingers would label him or her a traitor. Many grassroots liberals would approve the idea, but I doubt that many elected Democrats would stand up for it.

It's just an idea.

memorials in Vietnam that pay tribute to US and allied soldiers - if the Vietnamese can get over the fact that another country aggresively invaded their country and killed millions of their citizens and put up a memorial to those invading soldiers would it be too much to ask the US to acknowledge the price paid by the Vietnamese??????

In Turkey there is a beautiful memorial to the Anzac troops - who were the enemy - written by Kemal Attuturk (below)...would it really be that bad for the US to admit that the horror of Vietnam was considerably more horrible for the Vietnamese.

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives. . . You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore, rest in peace. There is no difference to us between the ‘Johnnies’ and the ‘Mehmets,’ where they lie side by side here in this country of ours. . . You, the mothers, who sent your sons from faraway countries, wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.” -- M. Kemal Ataturk

2. Someday
From what I've seen from wingnuts the Yahoo boards, someday the GOP will want to tear down the Vietnam Memorial and replace it with a statue of Young Bush Jr. Dedicated to his brave defense of Texas Skies (every other weekend when he wasn't up too late).
