THUGS at Dem. event / DRAKE IA Supeonas activists. -Coincidence?
Edited on Sun Feb-08-04 11:10 PM by graphixtech
Someone on this site noticed this obscure connection, so I researched it and confirmed this fact (VERY odd that the Ch. 5 news website link is now missing)
Drake University is the same place that the college Brownshirt Republicans crashed the Democrat's (Joan Jett) rally on January 17th!!

This is far too coincidental. Might someone have gotten so much negative feedback about that incident that they decided to call in their Friends?

Has anyone else noticed this connection? This is a very serious matter that deserves our full scrutiny.
(Anti -Terrorism Task Force = Target patriotic Americans who Dissent against Bush?)

As a Des Moines native and US citizen, I find this Fed involvement absolutely infuriating. Please call the US Attorney's office in Des Moines on Monday and voice your opinion on this critically important issue (the Grand Jury appearance is on Tuesday). This issue has made the front page of the DM Register for several days, so be assured that MANY people are calling. You will be in good company.

Here are the phone contact specifics:
The phone number is 515-284-6257. PLEASE CALL and tell them that you have heard about this case, and that you are concerned about the apparent violation of freedom of speech and right to peaceably assemble that this legal action is apparently targeting. If it can happen in Iowa, it can happen anywhere.

Sorry to use this dirty link, but it tells the original details and links to the original Channel 5 story which has myseriously disappeared:

"Political Rallies End in Brawl
Two political rallies turned into a brawl Saturday night in Des Moines.
"A Democratic rally at Drake's Olmstead Center, urged young Iowans to get out and vote. It was targeted toward high school and college students. A group known for not voting. The rally featured comedian Janene Garafalo and classic rock star Joan Jett, but it got a surprise visit from some unwanted guests.
"A group of college republicans at their Midwest caucus leadership conference heard about the rally and stormed in.
"There are seven of us who worked really hard at putting this conference together, said Jason Cole of the college repu..."

3. Yes, surely Drake University
and all who are associated with it are aware of the recent connection.

However, the NATIONAL activists, US citizens may very well NOT be aware of Drake's recent political history.

Some of us appreciate the reminder that DRAKE is the same Iowa University that bred the group of reTHUGs who recently physically intimidatied the Democratic Get out the Vote event.

4. I'm glad for your post. I hadn't made that connection yet.
And Drake is surely paying for allowing their students and professors speak out against the madness that is the GOP....

..In addition to the subpoena of Drake University, subpoenas were served this past week on four of the activists who attended a Nov. 15 forum at the school, ordering them to appear before a grand jury Tuesday, the protesters said. -snip- Those served subpoenas include the leader of the Catholic Peace Ministry, the former coordinator of the Iowa Peace Network, a member of the Catholic Worker House, and an anti-war activist who visited Iraq (news - web sites) in 2002. -snip- The forum, titled "Stop the Occupation! Bring the Iowa Guard Home!" came the day before 12 protesters were arrested at an anti-war rally at Iowa National Guard headquarters in Johnston. Organizers say the forum included nonviolence training for people planning to demonstrate...cont'd
