If Bu$h Gets Re-Selected would Canada take us as Refugees?
I just googled requirements for Canadian residency. Noticed this paragraph:

Refugees and persons needing protection are people in or outside Canada who fear returning to their country of nationality or habitual residence. In keeping with its humanitarian tradition and international obligations, Canada provides protection to thousands of people every year.

Through its refugee protection system, Canada offers safe haven to persons with a well-founded fear of persecution, as well as those at risk of torture or cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.

I am leaving nothing to chance, and getting my ducks in a row now. Does anyone know if Canada is more likely to accept someone with EU citizenship?

1. I don't know...but
I want to leave the US. The people in this country have no common sense. Besides, the Liberal Party dominates the political arena in Canada!

4. I'm up here in Canada and from what I gather
the Liberal party is getting more and more centrist/conservative all the time. Which leaves them far to the left of the DLC, as a point of referance. Things aren't perfect up here either. There seems to be a big east/west split.

parties competing for votes and doesn't really reflect the people...We just ignore it....The Liberal party is liberal...not far left, but liberal....hence universal health care, etc....The Conservative party is having problems getting their act together (they were a centrist party...not really right) ever since Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, in the early nineties was responsible for the decimation of that old and honourable party. Due to his unpopular policies they were almost voted out of members when Mulroney retired.....:)

2. won't be necessary --we are going to get the dumb a%%hole
of our house and while we are at it, teach everyone who will follow us to never ever elect another Bush. LEt them lounge in their stupid homes by poolside, let them "summer" in Kennebunkport, but alert all of your younguns--never ever let another Bush anywhere near the White HOuse. He will NOT force himself on us for another four years. No way.

6. Umm..seriously...
what are the countries that would permit a U.S. citizen to emigrate? I've heard it's really very difficult unless you have a few million dollars (which, I regret to say, I don't).

8. You can get Residency in Costa Rica if you invest $50K in reforestation
or a similar project, or have a verified income of (I think) ~$1k/month, like a retirement income. I just checked it online yesterday. It's a great country, I was an exchange student there more years ago than I care to divulge.
