FBI "at critical stage" in yellowcake probe

The following is buried in the WP's Plame bombshell story for tomorrow's papers. It's incredible, a bombshell w/in a bombshell ... the White House is catching incoming from all sides now:

...

A parallel FBI investigation into the apparent forgery of documents suggesting that Iraq attempted to buy yellowcake uranium from Niger is "at a critical stage," according to a senior law enforcement official, who refused to elaborate. That probe, conducted by FBI counterintelligence agents, was launched last spring after UN officials pronounced the documents crude forgeries.

1. this trail HAS to lead into the WH, the OSP, or Blair's MOD....
OK, maybe Chalabi or one of his disaffected Iraqi cronies. Who else would even give a rat's buttocks about forging the Niger documents?!

4. Or Sharon's office
The accounts I've seen say that Sharon had his own equivalent of the OSP, which was pushing hard to get Saddam out.

2. The next para is verrry interesting too:
" Several sources involved in the leak case said the questioning suggests prosecutors are preparing to seek testimony from Novak and perhaps other journalists. "There's a very good likelihood they're going to litigate against journalists," one source said. "

3. isn't Cheney, etc. blaming Italy?
if you want to run a scam, of course you set up a mark (the American people) with a partner who appears to be operating separately. (Italy)

the good news is that apparently Italy is sick of Berlusconi's govt of, by, and for Berlusconi and his media empire.

whether they can get rid of him or not...
