Money talks -- why the media is finally turning on Bush.
Think about the market that buys newspapers/magazines.

You think rich people make up more than 1% of that market, as a source of revenue? Nooooo.

This economy is screwed, and screwed badly. Bush is an egomaniac and won't change his views on how to run the domestic economy.

Newspapers/magazines on store racks aren't selling as well, because enough of the previous consumers can't afford them anymore.

This is my theory. Just a theory with no facts to back it up. But Murdoch and Scaife know their master -- money. And if I'm right, they can't afford another 4 more years of Bush, it will eat waaaay to much into their revenues.

Anybody out there have links for newspaper and magazine sales, by quarter or month or ... ?

1. Actually the Murdoch press and Fox have not turned around
You may be right insofar as other papers and they know that they are
in trouble

The reason: The Right distrusts the SCLM because they are "liberal."

The Left now distrusts a media that refuses to do its job... which is sad to put it midly.

Hence they have a credibility problem from hell.

Now Fox, rumor has it, has rarely turned in a profit, and they are not running it for profit, but for propaganda... the same goes for Murdoch... even if a tad less.

Now the Guardian is rumored to be planning a US Operation, and we know that when the Guardina launcheds in the US, they will SELL, which the NYT is having a problem doing.

Hope this helps... but you are into something, as they get more and more people telling them were to go, as we all search for news AWAY from the main news media

5. God no, it's about as far from the Murdoch Empire as you'll get
It's owned by a trust set up years ago by the then proprietor. While it's a commerical operation, all the profits stay inside the group.

2. yeah but remember Citizen Kane?
where Charles Foster Kane says he can lose money running his papers for years and years and years ....?

Some of these people don't give a shit. They're more interested in the propaganda than they are in turning a profit.

I doubt they make much money on newspapers these days. These are huge media conglomerates remember.

6. The media have not turned!
The corporate media makes its big bucks from advertisers, not from people who buy papers or view TV. They have not changed their colors at all.
And they won't. The dem party will have two opponents, - the GOP and the media. The press picked up on the AWOL story because it was shoved into their faces when Michael Moore called Bush a deserter. That wasn't going to go unanswered. If you're not sure - watch the spin of how the poor president has been attacked unfairly. Even the press corps is being attacked right now by CNN...as being out of line.

Check out this TVNL editorial, - if you missed it...

7. I will read that, but advertisers don't pay for ads in nonselling media...
Thanks for the link. Gotta run out for a while but will check
it when I get back.
