Heads up -- "Shocking quotations from the Republican Revolution"
A new book coming out in March, with quotations from the mouths of Republicans. Watch for it!

From Publishers Weekly Newswire:
*****************

About 10 years ago, Bruce Miller of Miller Trade Book Marketing, a rep whose territory includes Wisconsin, Minnesota, Ohio and Michigan, started listening to Rush Limbaugh and the "Baby Rush" programs that seemed to be sweeping the nation. Miller recalled, "Being a sales rep, I was traveling to all these different states in the Midwest; I'd hear the same offensive rhetoric--same message, but different voices, on different stations. I started writing down some of the more outrageous statements of these conservatives on talk radio, I was blown away by what I was hearing."

In 1996, Miller produced a 36-page pamphlet entitled When Right Is Wrong: Shocking Quotations from the Republican Revolution. He printed 300 copies and sold them for $3 retail through bookstores in his territory. "They disappeared pretty fast," Miller told PW Daily.

About eighteen months ago, after a presumably long search, he found a publisher: his parents. Or they found him. Jordan and Anita Miller of Academy Chicago Press suggested that their son update and expand the booklet, so they could consider it for publication. "I didn't know if I wanted to immerse myself once again in right-wing rhetoric," Miller said. "But what could I say? How can you say no to your mom?"

The result, written with Diana Maio, is called Take Them at Their Words: Startling, Amusing, and Baffling Quotations from the G.O.P. and their Friends, 1994-2004 (Academy Chicago, $15.95). Sidney Blumenthal wrote the preface; Mike Luckovich drew cartoons.

The book includes more than 1,000 quotations taken from a variety of sources in addition to talk radio, including TV, books, magazines, Web sites, even the Congressional Record. Among examples, a comment that Sarah Brady, wife of President Reagan's injured press secretary, should be "put down" and Tom Ridge stating that in the event of an attack, one should consider fleeing--or staying put.

Not surprisingly in an election year when political books from all sides of the spectrum are hot, prepub sales of Take Them at Their Words, which will be published in March, have been strong. According to Jordan Miller, "Usually the independents order twos or threes from us. With this book they've been ordering fives and tens." The first print run of 10,000 copies is already sold out, and Academy Chicago plans a second printing eventually.

1. What I would like to see happen when this book comes out
Pick the two or three most shocking, vile, viscious statements, find the original audio, and have CNN and MSNBC loop it on their newscasts over and over and over for one week. About 653 times should do it.

And then maybe, finally, people will start to open their eyes to the true nature of these truly evil creatures.

2. have to keep an eye out for this one...
sounds like a great book. I'm dazzled at the brilliance of Tom Ridge - that quote gives me a lot of confidence in his ability to lead...

5. Here's the Amazon link to order the book
It looks like you can pre-order it. I don't have a link to the PW Newswire article because it gets emailed to me automatically through subscription.

lots of sound bites and bumper stickers! And I mean that in a good way. That's just what we need for the general election.
