Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 10:03 PM by jayfish
Boy, when NewsMax doesn't even have any credibility within the right, you know the worm has turned. What was it that Ed Gillespie said today? Something about Dems gearing up to run dirtiest campaign in the history of politics? Hey Ed! Shut your yap and pull your troops in to a huddle real quick before * goes Gray Davis on ya. After that the whole Republican party will have about the same credibility as NewsMax.

FAKE "2nd photo" of Kerry-Fonda at rally

Hey, Freepers: I don't know who PhotoShopped that fake "2nd photo" of Kerry and Fonda at the antiwar rally, but you should know that you came within AN EYELASH of causing a huge embarassment.

Thank goodness Raoul made a phone call, so Kristinn just got a call from somebody who is a longtime press friend of FR who was about to go nationwide with the "2nd photo" story. You've got no idea how close this was to being a train wreck.

I am told NewsMax actually got suckered on this.

The same veterans who had circulated the original Fonda-Kerry photo apparently got hold of the PhotoShop fake and didn't know it was a joke. So when these veterans contacted the press Thursday morning claiming to have a second photo -- man! A lot of valuable time was wasted as reporters contacted Associated Press trying to verify the existence of this fake photo.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful with this kind of stuff.

It was established by a couple of sharp FReepers on a thread last evening that the 2nd pic was a fraud. Someone's idea of a joke(?) I guess. IMO, save the Photoshop stuff for humor threads, or identify it as such.

The fake pic showed Kerry on stage with Fonda. It was on Newsmax earlier today but it's gone now.

NewsMax grabbed the first one off this very site and claimed it as their own, without crediting FR for having found it in the first place.

Thank you for posting this thread.

I was almost part of the news scandal you mentioned above because I shared the photo with ONE PERSON and it was traced back to me. I thought the photo was real!

You'd have to be crazy to doctor a photo and leave "AP" on the photo as the source.

People need to be more responsible. It's one thing if the photo is obviously a joke but this one looked authentic. Apparently, it fooled a lot of folks. This will not earn the conservative cause any points...

1. another of their dirty tricks
I saw one of them today talk about organizing a mass email campaign to the employer of one of those pilots who has come forward to say he never saw Bush in the new unit.

6. Don't they know they're just tools?
It's disgusting how the GOP manipulates their mindless followers, and then leaves them hanging.

They don't even care -- just get the lie out there, and chances are not as many people will see the correction.
